Speeding White Orb

Photo date: December 4, 2014. Photographer: Mark Mahin.

In this indoor photo of a wall, we see what photographers call a "ghosting" effect that is a sign of rapid movement. Given the Sony camera's effective shutter speed of about 1/1000 of a second, an effect like this would never be produced by something like the movement of an insect. The orb was apparently moving  much faster than any insect does. The object's apparent size was about that of a softball.

Below is a closeup created after I used the IrfanView "Auto-adjust colors" menu option.

Dust level: 280/4, Fair. Reflective surfaces nearby: none. No insect was observed at this location during the previous week. Flash photos shortly before and after this picture was taken showed no orbs, which argues against the possibility that dust was the cause. There were no lights affecting the photo area other than the flash.
