Pure But Puzzling

The photo on the left shows a drop of pure, clean water, which I photographed while it was falling.  We see strange circular shapes with holes in them. The photos on the right are closeups of such shapes, taken from other photos I took today while photographing ordinary water drops falling.

This effect is not at all something that appears only when a flash photo is taken, because I often see the effect in my camera view finder as I photograph falling water drops.

Below is another photo from today showing the same effect, which today occurred in about 20 consecutive photos before disappearing just as mysteriously as it had suddenly appeared.

Blue Orb Plays Window Clerk

At Grand Central Terminal they have these cute little clerk windows, which sometimes are opened to allow train customers to interact with the clerk. In this photo we see a mysterious blue orb that almost seems to be playing "window clerk."

I took the photos below while photographing nothing but ordinary drops of pure, clean water falling against a dark background. We see circular objects with strange holes. Not at all an effect you could ever reproduce if you tried to use a needle to make a hole in a water drop.

A Big Orb Hole

I took the photo below while photographing nothing but ordinary drops of pure, clean water falling against a dark background. We see a large hole of a type that is quite impossible to make in a water drop using a needle.

Whenever I get these strange orb holes, they appear en masse, as in the photo below from the same day. All of the holes are in the lower part of the orb.

The Orb Holes Appeared Suddenly

I took the photos below while photographing nothing but ordinary drops of pure, clean water falling against a dark background. In the first photo we see orbs with large holes.

Sometimes I get holes like these gradually starting to appear in my photos. But today they appeared dramatically all of a sudden, as in the photo below. I got many such photos, until being interrupted by a junk phone call. When I came back to the camera, there were no more orb holes.  See here for many similar photos I have taken. Note how all of the orb holes are on the bottom half of the orb.
