Yet Another Pattern Fade-Out

I took the photos below while photographing only ordinary drops of pure, clean water falling in front of a black featureless background.  We see another example of the strange effect I have noticed only in the past two weeks: a fade-out effect in which an orb pattern slowly fades away like a vanishing ghost.
