Could He Make Orbs Using Mind Power?

The late Alex Tanous was a psychic and parapsychologist described in the encyclopedia article here. At the beginning of his memoir Beyond Coincidence: One Man's Experience With Psychic Phenomena, he makes a series of claims that are about as startling as any man has ever made. He claims:

  • That he revealed to individuals many events in their future, including marriages and the date of birth of their children.
  • That he relived crimes in such detail he was able to sketch the faces of the culprits, persons later arrested and convicted.
  • That he broke cameras of all descriptions without touching them.
  • That he caused lights to go out in public buildings by just willing them off.
  • That he projected images on to walls with only the power of his mind.
  • That he "separated one part of my consciousness from the rest, sent it hundreds of miles from my physical body, observed the surroundings, then returned and reported what I saw with total accuracy"; and that he "duplicated this feat time and time again, in a scientific laboratory, under tightly controlled conditions."
  • That he spoke with spirits and ghosts.
Relevant to this topic of this blog are the claims of Tanous that he could create with his mind balls of light.  On page 2 he says "I have created floating balls of light in totally dark rooms." On page 53 he says, "I've been able to project balls of light into my hands or into the room, in otherwise absolute darkness." On page 101 he says, "I discovered I could project not only balls of light, but actual images, images which could be seen by everyone in the room."  On page 110 we read that many witnesses saw a ball of light mysteriously near Tanous.

On page 102  and the next page Tanous quotes several witnesses who said they saw a strange aura emitting from his body. One described it as a mist around his head.  On page 123 Tanous says that "on several occasions, I saw a shapeless mist drift away from a patient when he died."

On page 140 of the document here, we read of a "fly-in" experiment performed by distinguished researcher Karlis Osis, in which many claiming out-of-body experiences were invited to attempt astral projection (an out-of-body experience) to identify objects in a small office of the American Society for Psychical Research. We are told this:

"Alexander Tanous related that his awareness traveled several times from Portland (Maine) to the target locale during the experiment. Not only did he correctly observe the objects and shape of the table, but also noted a tea cup, which indeed was unintentionally left there by another researcher. Elwood Babbitt also described the target correctly in his third fly-in from Massachusetts. He also correctly drew the shape and location of a broad, small plant, a painting, and small sculpture of a smiling girl. Teddy Marmoreo of Toronto projected to the site at night before the experiment and saw Osis sleeping at ASPR – an account which was confirmed."

Tanous' discussion of the test is on this page and the next two pages.. On page 140 Tanous says, "In the early months of 1974, Dr. Osis and I talked at length about my impression that during my out-of-body experiences, I see myself as a tiny ball of light."

Some of My Best Orb Photos (Part 2)

In a previous retrospective post, I included some of my best orb photos before August 2015.  It's about time I gave a Part 2 showing some of my best orb photos from late 2015.  I will include links that allow you to go to the original posts

Below is an orb I photographed in September 2015:

spirit orb

The photo below from September 2015 was taken while I photographed ordinary drops of pure clean water falling. It was one of many photos I have taken of mysterious "orb rings."

The photo below from October 2015 shows some things I call orb veils. The red color of one of these is striking.

Another photo from October 2015 (also produced while photographing only drops of pure falling water) producing this extraordinary "golden mushroom" effect:

This 2015 photo produced a green sky orb:

The October 2015 photo below (taken while I photographed only pure falling water drops) was one I announced with the headline of "A New Mind-Boggling Wonder: Striped Orbs." This sure was not a case of "crying wolf," because in the coming years I would photograph mysterious striped orbs more than 800 times, counting only the photos I took in clean dry air. You can see all of those photos by finger-swiping your way through the free online book here

I look forward to later publishing further posts in this retrospective series "Some of My Best Orb Photos."

Orbs in the Intensive Care Unit?

For many years Michael Prescott had a blog in which he wrote at great length on topics of the paranormal and life after death. Prescott has stopped updating the blog, but it is still online, and makes a fine scholarly resource. Its very many blog entries are well tagged. So, for example, you can click on the "NDEs" tag on the left, and get 92 blog entries dealing with near-death experiences. In one of those entries I read a review of a book called "Near Death in the ICU" by Laurin Bellg MD. Prescott states, "One common thread involves seeing a spiritual being (or more than one) in the form of a glowing point of light or a luminous orb."

In the same Prescott post we read this quote from the Bellg book:

"[Marlene] soon became distracted by the presence of a soft blue orb of light that came into view on the opposite side of the room....While the orb was slowly approaching, she noticed that the voices below [in the hospital] became thinner and more distant while the visual scene grew ever smaller and more remote, as if she were looking through the wrong end of a telescope. As the orb, about the size of a beach ball, came to rest in front of her, she felt overwhelmed with emotion and intense feelings of peace, love and complete safety."

This is only the beginning of a long and interesting near-death experience involving some fascinating details you can read in the Prescott post

A Striped Orb

Photo date: June 4, 2023. Photographer: Mark Mahin.

Below we see a mysterious orb I photographed indoors. This is the first clearly striped orb I have got in a long time. Years ago I used to get mysterious striped orbs in amazing numbers. By using the link here, and continuing to press Older Posts, you can see more than 700 photos I took of mysterious striped orbs.

There is an interesting difference in color here: purple above the stripe, and blue below it.

New Video -- "Haunted" iPad: A Spirit Warning?

On about the beginning of June 2, 2023 (although possibly a few minutes before midnight) I woke up to see my recharging iPad acting very strangely.  The strange behavior lasted 3.5 hours.  The iPad ran for 3.5 hours in a repeating loop consisting of 3 seconds of a dark screen followed by 10 seconds of a bright screen. This loop continued for about 3.5 hours, until I finally unplugged the iPad at about 3:30 AM.

I took three videos during different hours of this period, and each video showed exactly the same pattern repeating over and over: 3 seconds of darkness, followed by 10 seconds of brightness.  You can see a few minutes of the iPad's spooky behavior in the video below.

The iPad has never acted this way before, and it did not ever act this way when I recharged it yesterday. Searching online I can find no case of an iPad behaving in this way. There is nothing wrong with the battery, which allows the device to take a full charge at night, with the charge lasting all day.

I can think of one exotic possibility to explain this very spooky behavior of the device. Perhaps the behavior was some kind of warning from some mysterious spiritual agency capable of manipulating earthly devices. If the idea sounds absurd, I may refer you to this recent university press release referring to a  $44,000 grant for a fund to study phone calls from the dead.  Using this link you can watch in a separate tab a video I took showing a camera taking about 300 flash photos by itself, in 13 separate bursts. At the link here I document a long series of spooky events involving a sound machine, and the link includes a video showing some of the very spooky behavior (a video showing clock lights mysteriously fading in and out, over and over again). The idea of some spiritual agency interacting with human electrical devices is one that goes way back, and includes decades of research on unexplained voices picked up on radio devices or tape recorders (what is called Electronic Voice Phenomena or EVP).

Let us speculate for a moment that this mysterious event was some kind of warning. What could it have warned of? Possibly some important thing happening 10 time units in the future -- ten days, ten weeks or ten months. I mention the number 10 because for 3.5 hours the iPad mysteriously lit up over and over again, always for 10 seconds.

If the interval between these 10 seconds had been 30 seconds, we might suspect that the event signified something 10 months in the future (as a month has about 30 day parts). If the interval between these 10 seconds had been 7 seconds, we might suspect that the event signified something 10 weeks in the future (as a week has 7 days). But the interval between the iPad lighting up was always 3 seconds. What time unit has 3 parts? A day, it would seem, since a day consists of a morning, an afternoon and an evening. So perhaps the spooky event warned of something that will happen about 10 days in the future, on about June 12, 2023.

But in case I have worried you a little about something bad happening around June 12, let me lessen the tension by telling a joke about a man who got a warning about something happening 10 time units in the future. The joke goes like this:

Doctor: I've got some bad news. You have only ten.

Patient: What, you mean I've got only ten months to live?

Doctor: No.

Patient: What, you mean I've got only ten weeks to live?

Doctor: No.

Patient: What, you mean I've got only ten days to live?

Doctor: No. What I mean is: ten, nine, eight, seven, six....

Green Orbs, and a Luminous Cloud at Death

On pages 89-91 of the book A Cavalcade of the Supernatural by Harold H. U. Cross, PhD, we have the following claims:

"At the Sydney circle, previously mentioned, there were always many manifestation of these wonderful lights, and the writer would describe them as balls of dull green fire, of various dimensions....The author, when on medical duty for the French Government at Tahiti during the terrible epidemic of Spanish influenza, watched at the bedside of a dying missionary and beheld a luminous cloud which enveloped the head and thorax of the patient. This was visible by candle light, and lasted about two hours; all who were near and the whole night staff saw the phenomenon. The author placed his hand in the cloud, and it became obscured as by a fog....As life departed the cloud gradually disappeared. Death was due to double pneumonia. At a distance from the man's bed, the cloud roughly resembled the conventional 'astral body.' "
