A Spooky Occurrence

This morning when I woke up I lay in bed for a while, and eventually turned my head around to look at the alarm clock behind me. Very strangely, the clock was blinking, with a time of 12:20. The actual time was only about 9:30.  This is the kind of thing that you may see in an alarm clock if the power has been interrupted, or if the clock has been unplugged and then plugged back in.

I took a photo showing that the alarm clock electrical cord was plugged in all the way to the socket. The clock was switching between the state shown here (with a time of 12:20)....

...and the state shown here (in which no time is displayed):

Now, as you can see from the photos, the electrical cord is plugged all the way in. So how could the power to the clock have been interrupted, to have caused this blinking state (with the time about 3 hours off from the real time)? The clock in question is one that will reset to a time of 12:00 when the power is interrupted.  My feet were more than two meters away from the electrical outlet, facing in the other direction, and there is no chance that some accidental foot movement changed the electrical cord.

One possibility is that there was a power outage. If there had been a power outage affecting my apartment, that would explain the clock anomaly. But the same power outage would have left its mark on two other devices: (1) another electric alarm clock in another room; (2) a sound-machine with a built-in clock a few feet away from where I was sleeping, and only two meters away from the alarm clock shown above. But there was nothing unusual with either of these devices. The electric clock in the other room was not blinking, and showed the correct time. I tested what effect a power supply disruption would have on my sound machine with a built-in clock.  Interrupting the power causes the machine to turn its "power" button off, and causes the time to switch to 12:00, as well as turning off the current sound the sound machine is making. But the sound machine still had its power light on, was still making the current sound, and showed a time of about 9:30.

So evidently the power could not have been interrupted to my apartment this morning, for 2 out of 3 clock devices did not show the changes they would have had if such an interruption had occurred. Also, I could find no mention on the Internet of a power outage in New York City today.

So how is it that I could have observed my alarm clock blinking this morning, with a time of 12:20, as if the power had been interrupted 20 minutes before I took the first photo above? It would seem that we can only explain this by imagining that somehow the electric cord was pulled out and then plugged back in about 20 minutes before I took the photo above at a time about 9:30. But I was alone in my apartment  at this time, my wife having left about 40 minutes before the first photo was taken.  There was no one else around who could have performed this act of pulling out the cord and putting it back in, and I know I didn't touch the cord before noticing the anomaly.

This is one of very many spooky occurrences I have observed around my living quarters, many of which are described in the series of 36 posts here. Collectively such occurrences create the impression of some invisible presence attempting to provide signs of its existence.

Spooky Switch

A few minutes ago I was lying on my couch, busily finger-swiping through random images on the very beautiful Bing Image Feed page,  when suddenly -- poof -- my TV changes channels from channel 17 (the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" movie) to Channel 1 (a New York One station showing someone talking about politics).  The two TV controllers were on my couch, but lying at least six inches away from my body, which had nothing moving but my fingers on a Samsung tablet.

I have seen TV anomalies such as this quite a few times: for example, the 3 cases reported previously here and here.  I live on the 7th floor, too high for "signals from passing trucks" to be an explanation.  One web site claims that your neighbor using his remote might cause your TV to change channels, but a test shows the TV remote signal does not pass through a wall.  See here for many similar accounts,  which sometimes create the impression of a mysterious signalling effect.

Postscript:  Something very similar happened on June 21, 2019. I was lying on my couch, when suddenly the TV switches from showing "Ancient Aliens" to a blank screen with a 5 in the upper right corner (what I get if I click the 5 button on my black controller).  I wasn't moving when the happened, and my foot was about 4 inches from the black controller, which was pointing perpendicular to the TV. I tried pressing "5" on that black controller from this position, and it had no effect on the TV.

Just Another "Turn-Up"?

As discussed in this post, Mary Rose Barrington has studied a family of mysterious anomalies that she calls JOTT, which stands for Just One of Those Things. She classifies six different varieties of JOTT, including a "walkabout," in which an object mysteriously disappears from the place where it is normally seen, only to be later found at some different place, and a "windfall" in which "an article of unknown provenance is found to be inexplicably present."  Another of the six varieties of JOTT specified by Barrington is what she calls a "turn-up," in which "an article known to the finder but from an uncertain location is found in a location where it is known not to have been before it was found."

I seem to get examples of such JOTT phenomena every now and then, as discussed here. For example, today I woke up, got out of bed and went to the bathroom. Upon returning to my bed about a minute after rising from it, I was surprised to see at the foot of my bed on the floor a colorful dish towel. It was about six inches from the spot I placed my feet when getting out of bed, and fully visible on the floor;  but I hadn't seen such a towel when getting up from the bed. I also have no explanation as to how the dish towel could have got in such a spot, which was not even in the same room that I keep such a thing.  I can recall no previous case of such a dish towel being anywhere near my bed.

The dish towel had many stripes. So much stripe weirdness I'm getting these days, mainly in the form of mysterious striped orbs that show up in my photos.

Another Speeding Orbs Video

On this site I have presented four previous videos (here and here and here and here) compiling some of the 700+ photos I have taken of mysterious speeding orbs. Below is an additional video of this type. Each of these videos shows an entirely different set of speeding orbs.

Below is a video compiling photographs I took of mysterious speeding orbs during 2018 and 2019.

A Video Showing Mysterious Speeding Orbs

On this site I have presented three previous videos (here and here and here) compiling some of the 700+ photos I have taken of mysterious speeding orbs. Below is an additional video of this type. Each of these videos shows an entirely different set of speeding orbs.

Below is a video compiling photographs I took of mysterious speeding orbs during 2017.

No flying insects were observed by me during any of the days when these photos were taken.  Some of the photos show undulating or sharp-turn motion of a type that neither insects nor birds ever make. When insects and birds are photographed, you can see their wings, but we nothing that looks like wings in these photos.

Almost all of the anomalies were photographed well away from the edge of the photo. Given this fact and the fact that I have short hair, we cannot explain even 5 percent of these photos as being a stray hair from the photographer or a photo of a camera strap.

We also cannot explain these orbs as dust, as all of them seem to be showing very rapid motion, but the average speed of an indoor dust particle is only 2 miles per hour, much too slow to produce the dramatic motion shown here. We also cannot explain them as insects, as the speed of an insect such as a house fly is no more than 5 miles per hour, and the objects shown here seem to be moving far in excess of 100 miles per hour.  The signs of motion include motion blur, "comet tails," and the effect photographers call ghosting, when multiple position states of a fast-moving object are captured in a single photo.

Marion's Videos and Photo Gallery

Marion Atehsa Cyrus is one of the top orb photographers around, and I previously recommended her Facebook page. I learned today that she also has a web site not requiring a Facebook login. You can see videos compiling her photos here, and a photo gallery here.

The Bands in the Baffling Balls

The photos below show some mysterious striped orbs I photographed in recent days.  The second and third ones look so similar you might think they are the same one, but they are different (the third having some green not in the second one).

baffling

The consistency of the thickness of orb stripes is astonishing. I have photographed more than 600 mysterious striped orbs, and I would estimate that more than 50% of them have a thickness about the same as we see in these orbs: a thickness about one sixth of the width of the orb.

Another interesting thing about mysterious striped orbs is how they seem to appear in long-lasting "streaks."  When I first started getting mysterious orbs in 2014, I took very many orb photos without getting a single striped orb. Then striped orbs started to appear, and appeared in my photos in great abundance for many months.  But by around December 2018 I started to get a long "slump" in which mysterious striped orbs would appear only about once or twice a month. But by May 2019 the mysterious striped orbs had reappeared in full force, and these days I am getting them quite abundantly.  In short, their rate of appearance varies enormously.

Loot My Photos

I have been blogging for years, but have never made a single cent from this activity.  I have also not made a single cent from photography, as my photographic expenses are very much greater than the tiny amounts of money I have made from my two books on orbs.  It should come as no surprise, then, that I decided a while back to turn all my blogs (including this one and my two other blogs, www.futureandcosmos.blogspot.com and www.headtruth.blogspot.com) into "Creative Commons" blogs, meaning anyone is free to republish any part of the content -- under the conditions stated in the "Creative Commons" license in the right margin of my blogs.  The conditions are simply (1) "no derivatives" (meaning alteration of the content is forbidden); and (2) attribution (meaning that if you use the content, you must include a link to the blog of mine from which you took the content).  So anyone out there on the Internet or in the publishing world can republish any of my photos on this blog to their hearts content, for free, as long as they include a link back to this blog on every page or video that uses such photos.  Making any alteration to any of my photos is a violation of this "Creative Commons" license,  and is strictly forbidden.

Mysterious Orbs with Shadow Stripes

A shadow stripe is a type of stripe consisting of a thick band parallel to a thinner band.  The grid below shows various mysterious orbs that I have photographed, each of which has a shadow stripe. To more clearly see the fine details of the shadow stripes, you can see the original photos here.

Below is an example of a shadow stripe. A shadow stripe may have two thin bands and one thick band, or merely one thin band and one thick band.
