Spooky Trifecta

 Tonight I was alone in the house where I normally enjoy the splendid company of my wife and one or more of my daughters. As I ate I enjoyed watching a youtube.com video entitled Twilight Zone (1959): 15 Weird Facts You Didn't Know. Before, during and after my watching of the video about the weird, spooky world of TV's Twilight Zone, I saw some weird, spooky things. Specifically:

(1) Upon walking up to the kitchen, I was surprised to see a light was on on the floor above the kitchen. No such light had been on when I had lunch using that kitchen, and no one else had entered the house since that time. 

(2) While I was cooking some spaghetti, the exhaust fan above the stove (and its green indicator light) mysteriously turned off. 

(3) Later in the evening a protective hat/helmet that was hanging very securely on a hook rack was mysteriously dislodged, with the hat/helmet crashing to the ground with a loud noise (while there was no change in the hook rack that had held the hat/helmet). No one was in the room where this occurred, and no one had been in it for quite a few minutes. I heard the sound of the hat/helmet crashing to the ground as I sat on a couch several meters away in the adjacent room. The hat/helmet had been hung on two hooks of the hook rack several hours earlier, and had not been touched for hours. 

All of these types of events I have seen before. As discussed here, I have seen three times before (in 2025 and 2024) the fan above the stove mysteriously turn off, always when I was cooking spaghetti. The hat/helmet has mysteriously crashed to the ground one previous time. I have seen many cases of lights mysteriously turning on or off, as you can read about in the series of 35+ posts here. 

Below we see what the hat/helmet looked like when it was on the hook rack that held it. 

And below we see what the hook rack looked like after the black hat/helmet had fallen to the ground. 

You can see from this side view how far out these hooks protrude, making a "just naturally fell off the hooks" explanation seemingly untenable. No breeze would have ever caused a heavy plastic hat/helmet to fall off hooks protruding out this far. 

I cannot imagine any natural explanation of what would have caused such a fall. No one was in the room that had the hook rack shown above. The room's door was closed, and its windows also closed. 

All I can do is chuckle, and say, "It's a Twilight Zone kind of evening."

I can think of one optimistic interpretation here. The mysteriously fallen hat/helmet symbolized protection. It's a hat/helmet like baseball first-base coaches wear to protect themselves from foul balls. I bought the hat a few months ago to protect my head from injury if I ever slip and fall to the ground while walking outside, as people my age sometimes do. So maybe an inexplicable mysterious event involving a symbol of protection is a supernatural sign that I have some degree of protection from a mysterious power, conceivably  some power rather like a guardian angel. 

Postscript: The event of a light above me seeming to have mysteriously turned on was repeated the next Tuesday. I left for a not very long walk in full daylight, locking the front door that is underneath a bright light inhabitants turn on only at night (using an indoor hallway switch). When I returned I was surprised to see that light was on. No one else was in the house. The light is sufficiently bright that failing to notice it being on when you lock the door is all-but-impossible, even during daytime. 

A Strange Occurrence

Today (alone in a house) I made myself lunch, and sat down to eat. Below is the view that I have when I am eating lunch (I always sit in a chair that gives me this view). 

Midway through eating my meal, about 8 minutes after starting the meal, I noticed something very strange. One of the two oven mittens was on the floor. I was very surprised by this, because my strict policy is to immediately pick up from the floor all out-of-place items I see on the floor, as soon as I see them. The moment I noticed the oven glove on the floor was after I had been back and forth in the area shown above quite a few times, to make my meal, without noticing any oven glove on the floor. It was also after about eight  minutes of eating in which I should have noticed any oven glove on the floor (it being right in front of me), but failed to do so.  While eating I was glancing at an I-Pad on the table. 

Trying to explain this, I came up with the idea that maybe by just walking back and forth in this area, I had perhaps caused one of the oven gloves to fall off the hook that holds it. I tested this idea, by walking back and forth near the gloves, trying to brush by them in a way that would cause one to fall off the hook. The test failed. It seemed that once one of these gloves is on the hook that holds it, the glove is very securely held there. Below is a closeup of the hook. 

I have one other hypothesis to explain the strange occurrence. Perhaps we have here a symbolic warning by some mysterious supernatural power. When one glove mysteriously falls, with one glove remaining, that makes a kind of "one left" symbolic motif. And that motif may symbolize that for me there is "one left" in my earthly life.  

But due to some vagueness in the phrase "one left," I need not worry too much. "One left" could mean one week left in my earthly life, or one month left in that life, or one year.  But it could also mean one decade left. And that is quite a bit of time. 

Postscript: There was a similar "one left" spooky event five days later, today, on March 15, 2026. I turned on the water faucet in the sink shown below. As I was holding a cup to let it fill up with water, to wash out the cup, I saw a knife  mysteriously leave the utensil holder seen at left below, falling into the sink four inches away from the utensil holder. This happened as I was standing right in front of the utensil holder, facing it, looking slightly to its right. 

 At first I thought to myself, "Maybe it fell through a hole at the bottom of the utensil holder." But an examination of the bottom of the utensil holder showed that it had only tiny holes, way too small for a knife to fall through. 

I can imagine no conceivable movements of my hand (to turn on the water) that would have caused a knife to fall out of such a utensil holder. Again we have the possibly symbolic "one left" motif.

Freaky Fall

 Below we see a fan I was using today. There seemed to be no possibility of it toppling, as it was supported by an extremely heavy base with the weight of marble, and also because I had used an extremely thick, strong and wide tape called Gorilla Tape (wider and thicker than duct tape) to secure the fan on both sides, affixing it to its base, making sure the heavy tape went several inches up the fan on both sides (6 inches on the right side), and about four inches down the base on both sides. 

I had run the fan for more than a half an hour, when I started to read some paper discussing the percentage of widows or widowers who report something like "contact with the dead" after the death of their spouse, which can take different forms such as an apparition sighting, the hearing of a voice, or a feeling of a sense of presence.  A few minutes later as I sat more than a meter away both units shown above mysteriously crashed to the ground, falling backward. Was there any causal connection between this mysterious event and what I was reading a few minutes earlier?  We cannot tell. 

Postscript: Today I went to get a thumb drive I keep in a suit pocket, to back up some files. In one of my suit pockets I found a "ghost detector" palm-sized unit I had bought years ago (basically a detector of magnetism at the milligauss level).  The detector was turned on, and its red light was flashing. The main oddity was that the device was turned on. It's a device I always leave off, to avoid draining its battery. This is one of countless cases I have seen in which lights or electrical devices seem to mysteriously turn on, as if some invisible hand was at work. In the past two days there were two spooky cases of misplaced objects, involving things (my wife's house keys and a remote control device I don't use) surprisingly found on floors where they do not belong. 

Mystifying Morning

A few minutes ago I finished eating breakfast, and then noticed something very strange on the floor, a few inches in front of my feet, which I had not noticed while eating breakfast. It was a green pill, a type of medicine I take twice a day. There are two very hard-to-explain aspects of what I saw:

(1) The pill is a type of prescription medicine that I am extremely careful about using (I even record on a wall calendar every time I take the pill).  I always take only one pill out of the pill bottle I keep in the bathroom, and immediately swallow the pill, recording that act by making a mark on the calendar. I never leave a pill of this type lying around on a table or a couch. So for me to see one of those pills a few inches in front of my feet (on the floor) is totally unexpected, and very, very hard-to-explain. I had not yet taken the pill this morning. 

(2) I had breakfast alone on a couch, holding only a tablet device and a cereal bowl, without anything else to block my view, with a coffee table about two feet away from my knees. During the whole time I ate breakfast I should have seen the bright green pill if it had been where I found it, in a spot on the floor in front of my feet, where it was very plainly visible from the spot I had sat,  the pill being about 18 inches away, right in front of me. But I only noticed the pill after finishing breakfast. The floor in the room where I ate is hardwood, and a green pill on such a floor is very easy to see. 

It was rather as if at about the moment I finished breakfast the pill had been teleported to the location where I found it. 

Maybe the timing at the end of breakfast had some symbolic meaning. In English "breakfast" sounds like "break fast," so a symbolic warning about some part of the body breaking fast (i.e. malfunctioning soon) might occur exactly at the end or beginning of breakfast. But I admit such thoughts are highly speculative. 

Below we see what I saw when I noticed the pill. The top part of the photo is the bottom of my coffee table. 

Postscript (April 21):  About an hour ago (in the mid-afternoon) I went out for a walk, and after leaving the front yard of where I live, I looked back at the house where I live. I noticed the light above the front door was on. I had just locked that door, and do not remember turning the light on or seeing the light on (either when I left for my walk or when I got a package from the front door earlier that day). The light (shown below) is a strong light you cannot help notice when locking the door. Also the front gate was ajar. I always close it when leaving, to discourage dogs from entering. The house was empty, and no one else with a key was in the city, two of them being on a trip that will end tonight.  I've noticed a similar effect with the front door light several previous times.  The light above the door can only be turned on from the inside of the house, and the light is not one of those lights connected to a motion detector. 

You might suspect someone reporting things so strange as being a user of alcohol or drugs. But I'm a lifelong teetotaler non-drinker who has never used recreational or illegal drugs. I've never even tried any form of marijuana. 

There was one other spooky thing this afternoon. I went out to buy food, stopping on the way to photograph a particular set of tulips I saw on the street. As always when going to the food store I went to, I took a discount card specific to that store. When it came time to buy my food, I looked for my card, and it was missing. Upon returning back home I remembered how I had photographed the tulips, and I thought to myself: maybe my discount card had fallen out to the ground when I took out my cell phone to photograph the tulips. I walked out all the way back to the tulips, blocks away, to check this hypothesis. There was no discount card to be found where I had photographed the tulips. But very strangely I did find the plastic discount card lying on the other side of the street (a wide avenue). There was no strong wind that could explain such a thing, the wind being only about 8 miles per hour. 

It is possible to interpret each of these spooky events as having symbolic meaning. I have already mentioned the possible symbolism of something spooky at the exact end of breakfast. A light above me turning on mysteriously may symbolize some spiritual illumination that lies ahead. The open gate may symbolize the opening of a previously closed pathway. But what about the very strange event involving the discount card? Involving strangely finding the card on the other side of the street, this might be some symbolism suggesting the Other Side of an afterlife.  A previous spooky event seemed to have Other Side symbolism.

Post-postscript: There were several additional events involving the unexpected sighting of rubber bands, occurring on several days. Particularly striking was what happened on May 8, 2025. At about 3:40 PM I noticed that there were two blue rubber bands on the floor, a few inches to the left of my coffee table. I was alone in the house at the time, and had been working the past five hours on a sofa about a meter away from where I saw the rubber bands.  I have no recollection of how the rubber bands got to that spot, where I should have noticed them immediately from the position where I was sitting. 

Post-post-postscript: The event about the light above the front door seeming to mysteriously turn on by itself occurred again on May 16, 2025. I checked that the light was off when I left for a walk, locking the front door. When I came back to the house, the light in front of the house was on. There was no one inside the house but me throughout this day.  The light can only be turned on from inside the house. 

The event seemed to occur again on June 12, 2025. Returning to an empty house after a mid-afternoon afternoon walk, I again found the light above the front door on. This occurred about an hour after another unexpected find of a rubber band on the floor in front of the TV, at a spot where it should have been clearly visible for hours previously, but I did not observe it, although sitting about 4 feet away for more than four hours.  Something similar happened a few days earlier, with the rubber band found in the exact same spot on the floor, but noticed when I first entered the room in the morning. 

It is easy to interpret anomalies involving light as having a symbolic significance, and a rubber band might also have symbolic significance, with the band's stretch capability perhaps symbolizing some mind stretching that may occur in the future. 

Post-post-post-postscript: On June 23, 2025 there were three striking additional examples of the "rubber band phenomenon" mentioned above. They all occurred in the same spot, a spot inches below where I was sitting and working. In each of the three cases I was surprised to see a rubber band within about 12 inches of where my feet were resting. The three cases of this happening occurred at different times of the day. I was not doing anything with rubber bands that might explain such appearances. 

Paranormal Displacements?

 While sleeping I normally wear earplugs at night during the winter and early spring, so that I am not woken up by the sound of a radiator heating the room.  Last night I awoke to use the bathroom, and while using the toilet I noticed that one of my earplugs suddenly left my ear. As I am very nearsighted and keep the bathroom light off at night, I could not see where the earplug had landed.  In the morning I turned on the bathroom light and saw that the earplug was in the sink, near the drain.  I cannot account for its arrival at such a location. Even allowing for a roll of the ear plug down the bowl-like sink basin, there was about a 10-inch gap between where my body was and the edge of the sink. It was just as if some invisible hand had plucked the ear plug out of my ear, and dropped it in the sink. 

At about 12:30 PM today (a few minutes ago) I heard a very distinctive "clink" sound coming from the bathroom. I went to investigate, finding what we see below. I had not left the tooth paste in the position shown, but on the right rim of the sink. No one had been in the bathroom for more than an hour, and during that hour I had been in the adjacent room, writing.  A test showed that the very distinctive "clink" sound was caused by the toothpaste moving from the edge of the sink to its center. It ended up right next to the metal unit shown below, just as the ear plug had done, on the same day. Now in this case you can think of a natural explanation: conceivably when I used the toothpaste about two hours earlier, I might have placed it on the rim of the sink in such a way that two hours later the toothpaste might have fallen down to the metal unit shown below. But how improbable a placement would that have required, for there to be a two-hour delay before the toothpaste fell? Seemingly it would have been almost as improbable as dropping a pencil and having it land on its point, so that only the point touched the ground. Again, we have an event suggestive of an invisible hand at work.  

Postscript: On April 6, 2025 at 11:20 PM (a few minutes ago) I again observed something exactly like the toothpaste incident reported above. I was typing, and had been typing for the past 40 minutes, I had not touched the toothpaste in 3 hours, having placed it on the rim of the sink. Again, I heard the same distinctive "clink" sound. Again I found the toothpaste as shown above, which was not how I had left it 3 hours ago. No one else was nearby. Again, we have something that was rather like some invisible hand at work. 

The rim of the sink is shown below. It offers a quite stable surface on which to place a tube of toothpaste, and the bathroom has no window, ruling out a gust of wind as an explanation. Mice have never been seen in the three years I have lived at this location. 

Post-postscript: On April 11, 2025, the same event described above occurred again, with the toothpaste tube falling from the spot shown above, to the center of the sink, with a time gap of at least 40 minutes since the last time anyone had used the bathroom. At this house there are no pets that might explain such an event. 

Post-post postscript: On April 13, 2025, the same event described above occurred again, with the toothpaste tube falling from the spot shown above, to the center of the sink, with a time gap of at least 60 minutes since the last time anyone had used the bathroom.

As I Expected, There Was a Spooky Disturbance on My Late Father's Birthday

 Having witnessed a very spooky disturbance on my late father's birthday in 2024, I expected that there would be a similar spooky event on his birthday, today. It did not take long for my expectation to be fulfilled, with the event occurring in the first hour of my father's birthday. 

At about 12:50 AM I lay awake in bed, and heard a loud noise. I went into the living room to investigate. I found the front panel of my kitchen lying on the floor.  The photo below shows exactly what I saw, before I had touched the panel.

The kitchen and the room were remodeled a few years ago, and the panel had been firmly glued into place for about three years.  If the panel had just fallen naturally from its normal position (shown at the top of the photo), it should have landed on the opposite side of the side shown above, a side that had lots of glue on it. We may have some metaphysical symbolism in this aspect of the event: the panel landed not on its expected side, but on the other side, the Other Side. 

There is an interesting partial match between the name of the fallen unit and a word meaning "father." The English word for the fallen unit is "panel," a word that begins with the syllable of "pa," which in English is a causal word meaning "father."

I had expected an event like this to occur because on my father's birthday last year something similar had happened, as described here. On that day last year I had a dream about a papaya. While lying in bed wondering whether that dream had symbolized my father (because "papaya" starts with the word "papa"), a GFCI circuit breaker in the bathroom mysteriously went off (turning off the power in the bathroom), without any imaginable natural cause. That circuit breaker is in a little panel on the wall.  The same panel has a green light that has mysteriously turned off and on more than 40 times in the middle of about 40 nights, as I describe here. 

The spooky observation reported in this post may be causally related to the spooky observation reported in my post here. 

I predict (with only a little more than 50% confidence) that next year on my father's birthday (January 29, 2026), there will occur some other spooky disturbance or spooky manifestation. 

Postscript: Astonishingly, on January 3, 2025 I had a dream in which I described the beginning of this event to my deceased sister, and in the dream I stated the date of January 29, 2025 correctly. You can read about that dream here. The dream served to accentuate that the event described above was an important clue.

Freaky Friday

A few minutes ago I was alone on the first floor of the house where I live, when a hall ceiling light about six feet behind me turned off by itself. I instantly turned around and saw no one near the light's switch on the first floor. At first rather incredulous that this could have happened, I thought that maybe someone had turned off the light from the second floor. I tried all the light switches on the second floor, next to the stairway leading from the first floor to the second floor, and none of them were capable of turning off the light on the first floor. It could not have been a circuit breaker going off or a lightbulb wearing out, because the light on the first floor turned back on as soon as I tried it. 

Postscript: (January 19): A few minutes ago, I was about to go to bed, and I tried to turn on my sound machine which I run while sleeping, to make a waterfall sound. I accidentally pressed the wrong button on the machine, and turned on a light on the little round sound machine. I turned off that light (which I never use at night), and pressed the right button to turn on the waterfall sound. After going into an adjacent room for a few minutes. I came back to the area of the sound machine, and I was very surprised to find that the light I had turned off a few minutes ago was now back on again. There was no one else in either room.  Other cases of lights turning on or off mysteriously are reported in my "Spookiest Observations" post you can read here. 

Post-postscript (February 16. 2025): Less than 30 minutes ago, in the same hallway discussed in the first paragraph, the light mysteriously turned off as I was walking down the hallway, with no one else on the floor. I distinctly heard the sound of the button being pressed. 

A Spooky Yuletide

A few minutes ago I was just reading up on the case of Luiz Antonio Gasparetto (1949-2018), a man who would go into trances and produce artworks in the style of great artists such as van Gogh, Manet and Renoir. You can read about him and see some of his art using the link here. Reading about the case, I decided to add a new entry to my long post "120+ Types of Paranormal  or Anomalous Experiences," which you can read here. So I added a line in my classification scheme, typing this line:

11.19 Mediumistic Painting and Drawing 

The word "mediumistic" refers to mediums, persons thought to be able to make contact with the spirits of the dead. 

Just after typing this line, my PlayStation machine mysteriously turned on. When this happens, I cannot fail to notice it, because the machine stops whatever TV show  I am watching, and takes over the TV set, making it look like this:

When this happened, I was alone in the room and sitting on a couch (two meters away from the PlayStation machine); my hands were busy typing; and the TV remote was an arm's length away. The only way to turn on the PlayStation from the couch is to get up and touch a button on the machine, or to use some combination of presses on the TV remote that requires pressing two different buttons.  So the turning on of the PlayStation machine was mysterious and inexplicable. I have seen the PlayStation mysteriously turning on by itself at least seven times in the past three years.. The synchronicity in today's case is interesting, with it occurring a few seconds after I typed a word ("mediumistic") referring to communication with the dead. 

Last night I had a vivid dream that I was demonstrating to someone some mind-over-matter powers. There was an element in the dream that may have symbolized the words "when die."  Could the dream have symbolized that the dead have mind-over-matter powers, and the ability to make physical manifestations in our world?

In the nineteenth century a huge host of witnesses reported during seances mysterious inexplicable movements and levitation of objects, including chairs, heavy tables and musical instruments. To read up about such reports, read my "Spookiest Years" series of posts here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here,  here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. Such witnesses were very often very good about promptly publishing detailed signed statements testifying to exactly what they had very recently seen, with the signed statements often including the names of several witnesses. 

Postscript: The event of the PlayStation turning on by itself happened again (a few minutes ago) on December 29, 2024, under conditions exactly the same as described above, with me sitting on the couch two meters from the PlayStation machine and its controller, and the untouched TV remote an arm's length away. This is the 8th time I have seen such a thing occurring in the past ten months.  Earlier this day I saw another repetition of the anomaly reported here. 

Post-postscript: The event of the PlayStation turning on by itself happened again (a few minutes ago) on January 1, 2025.  At the moment the PlayStation turned on, I was alone in the room, at a sink, meters away the PlayStation, its controller, and the TV remote. 

Post-post-postscript:  The event of the PlayStation turning on by itself happened again (a few minutes ago) on January 7, 2025.  with me sitting on the couch two meters from the PlayStation machine and its controller, and the untouched TV remote an arm's length away, and no one else in the room.  This is the tenth time I have seen such a thing. 

It is possible for me to turn on the PlayStation from the couch using a particular combination of two button presses (different buttons) on my TV remote. But doing that will cause an intermediate screen to pop up on the TV, and I have never noticed such a screen appearing during one of the times the PlayStation mysteriously turned on. So in the events described in this post, it was just as if some invisible finger has been pressing the On button on the PlayStation machine.  

Post-post-post-postscript:  The event of the PlayStation turning on by itself happened again (a few minutes ago) on January 22, 2025.  with me sitting on the couch two meters from the PlayStation machine and its controller, and the untouched TV remote an arm's length away, and no one else in the room.  This is the eleventh time I have seen such a thing. 

As in the first case reported in this post, the event occurred at a moment when I was  writing about a topic related to life-after-death. At the time the PlayStation mysteriously turned on, I was quoting some of the out-of-body experiences reported in the New York Times here. 

Post-post-post-post-postscript:  The event of the PlayStation turning on by itself happened again (a few minutes ago) on February 6, 2025.  with me sitting on the couch two meters from the PlayStation machine and its controller, and the untouched TV remote an arm's length away, and no one else in the room.  This is the 12th time I have seen such a thing. I noticed that in an adjacent room an alarm clock was now blinking with the current time, just as if might if it had been unplugged and plugged back in at the same time the TV anomaly occurred. 

Post-post-post-post-post-postscript:  On February 27, 2025 I was watching "Mad Men: on the LG Channels station on my TV, with the TV remote an arm's length away, when suddenly my TV started showing what I get when I press the Home button (with a house-shaped icon) on my TV remote.  But no one had pressed the remote. Again, we have an effect like some invisible hand pressing buttons. 

A Spooky Sight

 Tonight hours ago I locked an inner door a few feet away from the front door of the house I live in, something I like to do as an additional security measure. A few minutes ago I decided to go outside and check the mailbox very close to the front door. I put on my shoes, noticing nothing unusual about the inner door right in front of me. When I came back from checking the mailbox, I noticed something very unusual.  The inner door was now ajar several inches, and locked (in the sense that the handle was unmovable unless you unlocked it) -- a state I can never recall seeing it in previously.  I am at a loss to explain this. I only lock this inner door when it is closed. I wonder whether this event has some symbolic significance. 

This is not the spookiest thing I have seen involving a door. As reported here, at a previous residence I once heard the lock cylinder turning on a locked door, and saw the door open slightly, without anyone entering. Going to investigate, and opening the door all the way, I saw no one nearby. 

Postscript: Odd things followed. The next Monday I heard a tooth paste tube falling into a sink a full minute after I had left a bathroom, with no one else around. The same night a light seemed to turn on by itself in the hall. The next day while watching a TV episode almost to its end, my PlayStation machine mysteriously turned on, when the TV remote was an arm's length away from me, and I was sitting alone in the room. The PlayStation and its controller were two meters away, and turning on the PlayStation machine requires either touching a button on the machine, or clicking a particular sequence of two clicks using the TV remote. 

Spooky Hops

 A few minutes ago I was walking by my not-yet-turned-on TV, walking about 18 inches away from it, when I heard a strange barely audible noise, sounding like something very small dropping very near. I looked two feet to my left to investigate. I saw on the floor a closed safety pin that had been on the ledge of my TV stand. It was now about 18 inches (about half a meter) away from the TV stand it had been on. I picked up the pin, and dropped it, to see if it made a sound just like the sound I had just heard. It did. The pin seems to have made an inexplicable hop of about half a meter.  

I might read symbolism into this event by considering the word "safety" in the term "safety pin."  Perhaps we have here some strange symbolism involving safety or security. 

Postscript: At the end of this day I saw a three-inch-wide air freshener on top of my toilet mysteriously fall off the toilet top, plunging to the left. The air freshener had been entirely on top of the toilet top, without any part of it dangling on the edge. 

Post-postscript: I stick to an old habit of wearing earplugs while I sleep. Last night I dreamed I lost one of my earplugs. I then awoke in real life to find only one earplug in my ears, with the one other one clutched by the right two fingers of my right hand. I put the earplug back in my ear, so that both of my ears were plugged. Later I awoke to again find one of my earplugs out of my ears, with the earplug now being clutched by the left two fingers of my left hand. I have no memory of removing either ear plug on this night. If this is some poltergeist activity, we might call it poltergeist precision. 

Post-post-postscript: On July 18, 2024 there was what seemed to be an even spookier hop of the same safety pin. After playing a video game on the couch for more than 30 minutes, I looked to my right and saw next to me a few inches away the safety pin, which had previously been about two meters away, on the ledge of my TV stand. I have no idea of how it got to a position right next to me. 

On July 20 this type of thing seemed to have a little "Other Side" symbolism. Just as I passed over to the other side of a doorway,  a meter away from my bathroom doorway, an object mysteriously fell off the top of a toilet.  Something similar happened the next day, and again on July 29. 

Post-post-post-postscript: On November 7, 2024 I again saw  saw a three-inch-wide air freshener on top of my toilet mysteriously fall off the toilet top, plunging to the left. The air freshener had been entirely on top of the toilet top, without any part of it dangling on the edge.  I was motionless at the time, standing in front of the toilet.  The same thing happened on December 15, 2024, the only difference being that I was starting to exit the bathroom. When open the door is a meter away from the air freshener. I tried opening the door several times, as rapidly as I could, to test whether that caused the air freshener to fall. It did not. 

Spooky Hops and Spooky Starts

 On May 21, 2024 I went into the bathroom and stood at least six inches from a tube of creme, which was positioned just exactly as shown in the photo below. Without any imaginable cause, the tube fell forward, landing at the sink drain.  I had not touched the tube in hours.  The same thing happened this morning. I stood at least six inches away from the tube, which I had not touched in more than an hour, when I saw the tube mysteriously fall forward, landing at the sink drain. In both of these cases I am sure that no towel or belt or anything in contact with me came anywhere near the tube. 

A few minutes ago I was alone using my I-Pad, with the TV controller an arm's length away on the couch I sat on,  and the Playstation controller and Playstation machine meters away. I had been watching TV for hours while working on a blog post. Then my Playstation device mysteriously turned on, at about 6:12 PM.  This has happened three times before, as recorded here and  here.  I get both mysterious "turn on" events and mysterious "turn off" events, with 30+ cases of a spooky turn off immediately followed by a spooky turn on. 

After such events, I may be tempted to think "talk about your Spirit Signs."

Postscript (June 4): by now I have seen several  additional repetitions of the spooky hops reported above. I just saw an example a few minutes ago. I stood about 4 inches away from the tube shown below, positioned on the rim of my sink, a tube I had not touched in hours:

While brushing my teeth about  four inches away from the tube, I saw the tube fall off the rim of the sink, falling towards the sink's drain hole. To make sure this could not have been anything I did, I put the tube back in the position shown above, and tried several times to bump my body against the tube in a way that would make it fall from the position shown above. None of these attempts worked. But somehow the tube fell to the sink bottom when I stood four inches away from it. 

Post-postscript (December 29, 2024): In the second half of 2024 I have seen numerous repetitions of this "jumping tube"  phenomenon, including one such event today. 

Post-postscript (December 28, 2025).  On this night I used toothpaste, and put in on the side rim of the sink. I then went back to bed. About two minutes later I heard a very noticeable sound coming from the bathroom. After I got up to investigate, I saw that the tube of toothpaste was now in the center of the sink. Evidently the tube had fallen or moved from the rim of the sink to the center of the sink. The two minute interval makes the event very hard to naturally explain. 

A Series of Spooky Events

 I observe at irregular intervals mysterious events that seem beyond any physical explanation. Last week there were several:

(1) As described here, minutes after I turned off a PlayStation device, it inexplicably turned on (the TV remote being an arm's length away and the controller being two meters away). 

(2) The next day, February 29, as described in the same post, two hours after I turned off a PlayStation device, it inexplicably turned on (the TV remote being an arm's length away and the controller being two meters away). 

(3) The next day, March 1, as described in the same post,  the ceiling smoke detector in the room I was in lit up and started making loud noises, as it might have done if I had pressed its circular button (although I did no such thing).  There was no vapor or smoke in the room that can explain this.  

(4) The next day, March 2, a green light in the bathroom mysteriously turned off for a second before turning on. 

This morning another spooky event occurred. I was standing an arm's length away from the tube shown below, which was in a  position like that shown below, on the rim of a sink. I had not touched the tube in more than an hour. Suddenly I hear a noise. I was not looking at the tube, but I now saw it on the floor. I tested whether dropping the tube from the sink would create a sound just like the sound I heard. It did make exactly such a sound. 

Somehow the tube had fallen to the ground when it was an arm's length away from me. How could that have happened?  I can think of only one natural explanation: conceivably the last time I put the tube on the sink I could have put it by chance in a position so balanced on the edge that the tube might by chance fall to the ground more than an hour later. This would require accidental balancing about as improbable as dropping a coin so that it lands on its edge. This analogy reminds me of the time I once saw a coin rolling up from behind me, on its edge, when I was alone in an apartment (as discussed here). 

Prediction: I will before long have more spooky events to report. 

Why might such an item be chosen as part of a spirit sign? On its left is a green arrow pointing upward, with the words "Up & up."  What would happen if a soul were to leave a body? It might go "up and up."

Postscript: While I had this post displaying on my laptop computer, with that computer on a coffee table an arm's length from me, I noticed the screen very noticeably flickered for a second. 

Today (March 9) I saw something spooky-looking. I nearly-closed the heavy back door of the house where I live, leaving the door halfway in the door frame, which should have been enough to prevent it from blowing open (given wind speeds at the time of only about 10 miles per hour). But the door then opened about 8 inches when no one was touching it.  I felt no gust of wind that might explain this. 

Post-postscript: Today (March 15) besides seeing three spooky incidents involving lights, I three times saw the tube shown above falling from the front rim of my sink to the bottom of my sink (the drain hole),  long after I had touched the tube. I can't explain any of these events, other than the idea I just happened to previously place the tube so precariously that it might fall many seconds later.  The chance of that happening three times in one day seems microscopic. 

I then thought to myself: I will start keeping the tube on the bigger back rim of the sink.  That back rim is about the length of the tube, as you can see in the photo below. It seemed the first six times I attempted to place the tube on the back rim of the sink, each time it fell to the bottom of the sink, to the drain hole. This occurred in  eight out of ten attempts, despite me having good precise muscle skills that I require for typing the posts of this blog.  While I was taking the photo below, the circuit breaker of the bathroom inexplicably went off, causing the bathroom to lose power, and requiring me to press the button on the GFCI outlet to restore power.  There was nothing plugged in the GFCI outlet, no mist in the bathroom, no water in the sink, and nothing I can think of that can explain the power in the bathroom shutting off. 

It seems I predicted correctly when I predicted that I would soon have more spooky things to report. 

Post-post postscript: Today (March 16) about 40 minutes ago I was cooking spaghetti and had the stove fan running, as I always do when using any of the gas burners. I was standing right in front of a gas burner, below the buttons and light shown below, and my head was at least eight inches away from such buttons (which are directly above the front burners). Suddenly the sound of the fan stopped. I looked up and saw the green light had gone off.  I was worried that the fan had "died," having had in my life two or three times when fans stopped running and then never could be turned back on. But upon pressing one of the  buttons, the fan and the green light turned back on.  The fan on this stove has the quirk that you can only turn off the fan and the green light by pressing the button on the far right two times in quick succession.  But no visible person had done that. I was alone at home at the time. 

Post-post-post postscript: Today (March 24) I observed a spooky event regarding my TV set. Five minutes after I had just started to watch the first episode of a TV series on HBO Max, my TV reverted back to an HBO Max startup screen. There's a way to get something like this by pressing a particular button on the TV remote, but the TV remote was an arm's length away. The strange event occurred at the exact moment I was typing the word "synchronicity" while writing about how people may have experiences they regard as evidence of some mysterious invisible agency, in a post dealing with ghosts and apparitions. 

Post-post-post-post postscript: On May 21, 2024 I went into the bathroom and stood at least six inches from the tube of creme, which was positioned just exactly as shown in the first photo of this post, Without any imaginable cause, the tube fell forward, landing at the sink drain.  I had not touched the tube in hours.  The same thing happened the next day. I was naked after showering, and stood at least six inches away from the tube, which I had not touched in more than an hour, when I saw the tube fall forward, landing at the sink drain. 

Another Event That Was Like an Invisible Presence Pressing a Button

This morning, about 30 minutes ago,  my Playstation machine inexplicably turned on by itself.

The machine is set up so that every time I turn on the power going to the TV and the Playstation machine, the Playstation always turns on two minutes after turning on the power. This morning after waking up, I did what I always do in the morning: after turning on the power,  I turned off the Playstation, and selected a TV program to watch. The TV program I selected this morning was Fringe, which I am in the middle of binge-watching.  

After about  five or ten minutes of the TV running this program Fringe, my Playstation inexplicably turned on, while I was sitting on a sofa two meters away, with no one else in the room. This has never happened in the nearly two years I have lived at this location.  The Playstation has a turn on button on its front, and its controller was resting on top of the machine, under the TV screen. The event reminds me of an event I recorded on January 29. When that January 29 event occurred, it was just as if some invisible presence had pressed the Test button on the GFCI button in my bathroom, causing the circuit to turn off with a loud click noise. Similarly, the inexplicable-seeming event I describe here (occurring last year) was just like what would have happened if an invisible presence had pressed the Test button on a smoke alarm in a room that had no vapor or smoke. 

Above is my TV just after this event occurred. It is always obvious when the Playstation (PS4) turns on, as the whole TV becomes like we see above. Ironically the series Fringe ( on HBO Max)  is about paranormal events. I am certain I did turn off the Playstation -- the PS4 -- first thing in the morning, because two minutes after turning on the power in the morning, I get not the screen shown above, but a different PS4 screen complaining that the power was suddenly turned off (something I do every night), and also because you cannot watch TV in the morning with my setup unless you first turn off the Playstation. At the time the PS4 (Playstation) suddenly turned on, my TV remote was an arm's length away. You can turn on the Playstation with the TV remote, but that requires pressing different TV remote buttons in a particular sequence of about four presses, something that would never occur accidentally (or would occur accidentally with a probability of  less than about 1 in 1000, if you were pressing random buttons on the TV remote). 

It's very hard to capture events like this happening at random intervals. But my page here does show a video I took of a camera taking 300 pictures by itself, while no one was touching it.  And my page here does have a video showing a camera changing its settings when no one touched it. 

Postscript #1 : Speaking of seeing spooky things, a few days after writing the account above (on February 17) I saw a large raven about 15 feet away, on the street. It seemed bigger than any black bird I had ever seen in New York City. 

Postscript #2 (February 28, 2024): The event of the Playstation machine mysteriously turning on by itself occurred again today,  February 28, 2024. About seven minutes after I turned off the Playstation machine, it somehow turned on by itself. The conditions were the same as before: the Playstation controller was two meters away from me, on top of the Playstation, and the TV remote was an arm's length away from me. 

Postscript #3 (February 29, 2024): The event of the Playstation machine mysteriously turning on by itself occurred again today,  February 29, 2024, occurring two hours atter I had turned off the Playstation machine. The conditions were the same as before: the Playstation controller was two meters away from me, on top of the Playstation, and the TV remote was an arm's length away from me.  

Postscript #4 (March 1, 2024):  Another day, another spooky event.  While sitting on a couch watching TV and using my I-Pad today, March 1, 2024, at about noon,  I suddenly heard a very loud electronic noise, sounding several times.  A look at my state-of-the-art smoke detector on the ceiling (the Nest Protect model) showed that it had a blue color in its ring. which it does not normally display. There was no smoke or vapor in the room,  and no one had cooked in it that day, and no one had showered nearby for hours.  According to the Google link here, the Nest Protect will show such a ring (and make loud sounds) if someone presses the button on the detector. But no one pressed such a button.  Below is a still from a video I took when the smoke detector still showed the ring. The link says that the detector will announce that a test is being made if you press the button, but no such verbal announcement occurred.  This detector is powered by an electrical wire connection, and there was no sign of any power fluctuation. 

A Spooky Event on My Late Father's Birthday

Today I had a dream that seemed to be a symbolic reference to my deceased father. Very often I get more direct dreams in which my father appears unmistakably in the dream. I have had 129 such dreams since I started recording my dreams in November, 2020. This morning (about two hours ago) after having the dream that may have symbolically referred to my father, I lay in bed thinking about my father. At that instant something spooky happened. I heard a loud "click" sound. The GFCI outlet in my bathroom had suddenly turned off, although there was no one in the bathroom.  This can occur from contact with water or steam or by someone pressing the Test button on the outlet. Other than water at the bottom of the toilet, there was no water or steam in the empty bathroom, which had been unused for more than an hour.  Nothing was plugged in to the outlet. So how could the outlet have shut off?  It was as if some invisible presence had pressed the Test button, at the instant I was thinking about my late father.  After waking up I realized that today is my late father's birthday. 

When I pressed one of the buttons, the outlet turned back on. There was no disturbance in a nearby digital clock, so no power interruption hypothesis can seem to explain the strange event. In the nearly two years I have been living at my current location, I have never observed this outlet shutting off when no one was in the bathroom (although on only one previous day last year I inferred that such a thing had happened). 

Postscript: Astonishingly, on January 3, 2025 I had a dream in which I described the event described above to my deceased sister, and in the dream I stated the date of January 29, 2024 correctly. You can read about that dream here. The dream served to accentuate that the event described above was an important clue. 

Spooky Flame

Today my wife left around 10:00 AM to visit a friend, leaving me as the only one in the house, which no one else was in between 10:00 AM and 4:45 PM. Today upon arriving home about 4:45 my wife complained that the gas was burning underneath a pan. I explained to her that I had not used the gas all day long, and had last been in the kitchen around 1:00 to make lunch, without using the gas, and without seeing it on. At first I thought of some "accidentally brushing by the gas knob around 1:00" explanation, but soon I heard something that ruled out such an explanation. My wife said she found a little water in the pan above the burning gas. If the gas had been on for more than 10 minutes, the water would have boiled away.  There was no sign of a burn on the pan's bottom. 

We are left with an anomaly I cannot explain. Somehow a gas knob on our stove seems to have mysteriously turned on only a few minutes before my wife arrived, while there was no one on the floor that has the kitchen. The gas burner knobs are all a type that cannot be turned on accidentally, as they require a simultaneous turning and pushing in to turn on the gas flame.  The incident reminds me of strange events I have reported here and here and here. In all of these events it is rather like some invisible presence (nothing to be afraid of) is trying to leave some sign of its existence. If such a thing seems inconceivable to you, you may think differently if you read some of the posts in my "Spookiest Years" series  (here, here, here and here and here). I am never alarmed when things like this happen, as I've seen many things like this happen over the years, such as (in a different residence) a light turning on by itself, a locked door opening by itself, a toilet flushing by itself a few times, and a coin rolling up from behind me (on its edge) when I was alone in my residence. 

In some religions, flames are symbols, and candles are burnt in churches to symbolize spiritual themes. There could be some symbolism in the strange event described above. 

Postscript: Below we see the knob that controls the burner that was mysteriously found on. To turn on the burner to the "Hi" position, you must press in the knob, and turn it two positions to the left. 

Spooky Systems

On the night of August 5, 2023 at around 9:10 PM a ceiling smoke detector went off in a room  with closed windows, a room I was in. The smoke detector was a state-of-the-art electrically powered ceiling smoke detector that had been installed about 18 months ago during remodeling. There was no smoke or vapor in the room, and no one had cooked in the house or showered nearby during the past hour; nor was there any smoke anywhere in the house, where no one smokes.  For hours no one had even made coffee or tea in the room where the alarm went off. The very modern smoke detector stated something like "Smoke has been detected on the first floor," even though there was no smoke. It was not any electrical problem, and the TV and lights in the room continued operating normally.  The cause of this spooky event is a baffling mystery. The detector (an expensive Nest Protect model) is shown below. No such anomaly had occurred in the 18 previous months, or in the ten days since August 5.  The next day a relative reported that the death of her husband had occurred on this very night of August 5, 2023.

Today at about 12:05 AM I saw the latest in many cases I have seen of the little green light in my  modern-type GFCI outlet in a bathroom going off for a second or two, and then turning back on. I have seen many cases of this happening, as recorded in my post here.  Later today there was a new twist I have never seen before. I used the bathroom about 8:00 AM, without noticing anything unusual. The green light on the outlet was still on. Having had difficulty getting back to sleep in the middle of the night, I slept until about 9:50 AM. When I entered the bathroom at 9:50 there was no power in the bathroom, although nearby electric clocks displayed the time normally. Trying to turn on the two different bathroom lights, I got no lights; and the green light on the GFCI was off. Apparently between 8:00 AM and 9:50 AM one of the white buttons had mysteriously been pressed, something that shuts off all power in the bathroom. I pressed one of the two buttons to restore the power in the bathroom. There was no one else but me on this floor after 8:00. The outlet is shown below. How the button got pressed is a spooky anomaly similar to the smoke detector anomaly. The GFCI outlet is shown below.

Postscript: Another day, another spooky system. This time it's my Simplisafe home security system. It has a control system screen which normally looks black and blank whenever the alarm is off. Tonight (September 7) my wife pointed out that the screen was flashing on and off, even though the alarm is set to off. I witnessed the effect myself, which I have never seen before with this system.  

Post-postscript: The mysterious shutting off of the GFCI outlet occurred again on January 29, my late father's birthday, at the very instant I was thinking about my late father, as I describe here. There was also another spooky event with the smoke detector, which I describe in the March 1, 2024 postscript of the post here. 

Post-post postscript: I cannot recall any case of the smoke detector shown above going off mysteriously, with a vocal indication of smoke, during the time between August 5, 2023 and September  15, 2024.  Then on September 16, 2024, around 5:50 PM, the smoke detector went off, flashing red, with a voice from the alarm saying that there was smoke in the bedroom. But there was no smoke anywhere in the house, and no one was cooking. It was not any electrical problem, and the TV and lights in the room continued operating normally. 

Was It All Just Chance "Playing Poltergeist"?

Quite the little day I'm having. Specifically:

(1) In the night a tiny green light in my bathroom mysteriously flickered, turning off for a second or so before turning back on (something I have previously noticed multiple times). 

(2) My sound machine (which I use every night to make a soothing waterfall sound) mysteriously turned off four different times. The first three times the clock on the machine did not dim in brightness, but the fourth time the clock dimmed greatly in brightness.  After a reset, normal operation of the machine was restored. It's more of the strangeness I describe in this post. 

(3) A Corelle brand plate I have been using for 18 years mysteriously shattered after what seemed like a not very strong contact with a cup. This brand of dishes is legendary for lasting very many years, and has a well-deserved reputation for being almost indestructible.

(4) After moving the trash can shown below to a position next to the white wall around noon, I found it a few hours later more than a meter from where I put it, in the spot shown below. A weather report listed the wind in my city as only four miles per hour today. And since this type of trash can has to be tilted to roll easily, the movement is hard to explain. 

(5) After restoring the trash can to its previous place against the wall, a few hours later I found the can again in the spot shown above, only this time the can was lying on it side. Checking the weather, I saw the wind listed as 8 miles per hour, not enough to topple a can like this one. 

I've seen and photographed so many strange things that this kind of stuff never alarms me.

Plastic-Pushing Poltergeist?

I continue to get strange observations in my back yard, where there very recently occurred the spooky anomalies I described here and here. The latest anomaly involves mysterious movements of a trash can. 

Here is the normal appearance of the backyard of the house I live in: 

There are two trash cans that we always keep next to the right wall, in the space between the tool shed and the planters, as shown above. On July 23 my wife noticed one of the trash cans in the position shown below, and scolded me, saying I had left the can in the wrong place. I had not put the can in such a position, but had put it next to the wall earlier that day, in the same position as shown in the top photo. My wife and I were the only ones in the house on this day. The wind was only 9 miles per hour. 

The can has two wheels on one side, but none on the opposite side; so you can only roll it by tilting it, and pulling it. Our back yard is flat, and the can would never roll by itself. The next day (July 24) I noticed a similar anomaly. The can had been moved more than a meter away from its previous position. I found the can in the position shown below:

I did not mention this to my wife, who never would have moved the can to such a position. She's very much a "put things in their conventional positions" type of person. 

Before July 23 we had lived in this house for several months, and had not noticed any such anomaly. You can come up with a natural explanation for the movements, although it would be very far-fetched. You would imagine some dog coming under the fence, and then moving the empty cans, for some unknown reasons. But the odds of that occuring on two consecutive days would seem to be negligible.

As photographic evidence of something like a poltergeist, this post is far weaker than the much better example given here.

Postscript: On January 13, 2023 I found in the morning one of the two trash cans in the middle of the backyard, overturned. Its top was underneath the back gate. A check of the wind speed on the previous night showed it was only about 5 miles per hour, too slow to explain this event as the result of a wind gust.  On January 26, 2023 I woke up in the morning to see the backyard just like it did in the second photo above, with one of the trash cans greatly misplaced.  On January 28, 2023 I went out about noon to bring one of the trash cans from outside of the gate, where it had been placed to allow a trash pickup. As I always do, I put the trash can back next to the other can, and placed the can's top back on it. About 3:00 PM I noticed the trash can about a meter or two from where I had placed it a few hours ago. Now the can's top was off of it, on top of the other can. There was no noticeable wind on this afternoon. 

On April 3 I found both trash cans in the middle of the yard, overturned. I had noticed them against the white wall when I finished a long walk an hour earlier, and hand noticed no unusually strong wind on that walk.
