Complexification of an Orb Pattern

Photo date: September 8, 2021. Photographer: Mark Mahin.

I took the photos below while photographing only ordinary drops of pure, clean water falling in front of a black featureless background.   First we see orbs with a large hole in their top part.  Then the pattern becomes more complex, with an additional hole appearing on the bottom parts of the orbs. Later the pattern gains an additional hole at the bottom, so that each orb has three holes.  We can also see a flame-like feature coming from the larger holes.
