Pentagon Probing Case of "Large Orange Orb"

Yesterday we had a news article on the CBS News web site entitled "Pentagon solves 1 UFO mystery but still probing cases of 'large orange orb,' 'large metallic cylinder.' "

In the article we read this strange description of an orb encounter:

"One case was reported by a law enforcement officer 'out West' who observed 'a large orange orb floating several hundred feet above the ground,' according to Kosloski. 

As the officer approached where he thought the orb would be, he saw 'a blacker than black object' that was about the size of a Prius. When he reached a distance of 40-60 meters away from the object, it tilted 45 degrees and shot up vertically, traveling faster than any drone he had seen before.

Just as it left his field of view, it emitted bright red and blue lights that lit up the inside of his vehicle 'as brightly as if someone had set off fireworks just outside of his vehicle,' Kosloski told Congress."

Freaky Flash

 Since starting to record my dreams a few years ago, I have had more than 500 dreams about deceased people, which have included more than 250 different deceased people (listed here). This evening I was telling one of my daughters at dinner that today I had a dream about the late Tony Randall. I showed her a photo of him, and explained that he was a great comedic actor.

After dinner ended I was watching a video on my I-Pad about great movie speeches, and the tab I was using filled up my whole screen. In the middle of watching this video on an I-Pad I was only holding, I suddenly see a picture of Tony Randall pop up for about three seconds and then disappear. I can't explain this. My fingers were motionless. Nothing I did should have caused such a picture to suddenly pop up on my tablet and then vanish three seconds later. It was rather as if I had got some little "thanks for the mention" sign from the Great Beyond.

Orbs Mingling With Ghosts?

 Page 231 of the May 19, 1883 edition of the periodical Light, which you can read here,  has an article by Stella Dunbar about experiences at a supposedly haunted house. We read this:

"Just at this time a young lady was crossing a passage, and looking from the window to the garden saw a woman in a light dress crossing the lawn. She called her companion, and they both watched the figure disappear. The same evening two others, knowing nothing of what these had seen, met the same figure coming from my room, and even noticed that it had very large bare feet."

We later read this:

"A visitor saw a woman’s figure, in everyday attire, sitting at the foot of her bed ; and my mother, entering the same room, saw what—until she spoke to it—she imagined to be the servant. In this room are frequently seen largo balls of bright light."

The account has some other mentions of spooky figures making fleeting appearances at the house. We are told, "The figure of a child has been seen by the drawing-room fire-place, and at the top of the stairs."

A Spooky Sight

 Tonight hours ago I locked an inner door a few feet away from the front door of the house I live in, something I like to do as an additional security measure. A few minutes ago I decided to go outside and check the mailbox very close to the front door. I put on my shoes, noticing nothing unusual about the inner door right in front of me. When I came back from checking the mailbox, I noticed something very unusual.  The inner door was now ajar several inches, and locked (in the sense that the handle was unmovable unless you unlocked it) -- a state I can never recall seeing it in previously.  I am at a loss to explain this. I only lock this inner door when it is closed. I wonder whether this event has some symbolic significance. 

This is not the spookiest thing I have seen involving a door. As reported here, at a previous residence I once heard the lock cylinder turning on a locked door, and saw the door open slightly, without anyone entering. Going to investigate, and opening the door all the way, I saw no one nearby. 

Postscript: Odd things followed. The next Monday I heard a tooth paste tube falling into a sink a full minute after I had left a bathroom, with no one else around. The same night a light seemed to turn on by itself in the hall. The next day while watching a TV episode almost to its end, my PlayStation machine mysteriously turned on, when the TV remote was an arm's length away from me. The PlayStation and its controller were two meters away, and turning on the machine requires either touching a button on the machine, or clicking a particular sequence of two clicks using the TV remote. 

Deathbed Orbs Turning Into Apparitions?

Orb Flanks the TV Ghost

Below we see a mysterious orb I photographed indoors. I was watching a Doctor Who episode on TV entitled "The Unquiet Dead," at the point where the TV depicted a ghost swirling around in the air. I wondered whether I might be more likely to get an orb when such a thing was depicted. Sure enough, this orb showed up in the second photo I took. 

The Same Features Keep Appearing in Reports of Out-of-Body Experiences

 Last night I had a dream of having an out-of-body experience. In the dream I seemed to have a kind of spirit body or astral body that was starting to rise up out of my physical body as my physical body lay on a bed. The separation between the two was not very great: only about a foot or so. In the dream my spirit body seemed to be horizontal above my body, and facing the ceiling. I had the idea that if if I could use the hand of my spirit body to grasp something above me, I might pull my spirit body up higher, farther away from my physical body. It was like I was trying to get my spirit body to rise higher above my physical body, but could not increase the separation between the two. 

The dream was remarkably consistent with accounts of out-of-body experiences, where the same features keep appearing. Below are some relevant examples:

(1) On page 288 of the July, 1894 edition of the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research, which can be read here, a witness reported being an observer above his own body, with an "elastic force" preventing him from floating too far away from his body. He reported he could not rise higher than "two yards" above his body. 

(2) On page 34 of the January 17, 1903 edition of the periodical Light, which can be read here, George Wyld MD describes having an out-of-body experience in which his "soul-form" was "six or seven feet" above his body. 

(3) On page 46 of the February 8, 1919 edition of the periodical Light, which can be read here,  we hear an account by Captain Gilbert Nobbs of getting a severe head injury during World War I. He says, "I seemed for a moment somewhere in the emptiness looking down at my body lying in the shell-hole."

(4) On pages 57-58 of an Italian book (the text of which can be easily translated using Google Translate), we read that Mrs. Nathalie Annenkof reported an out-of-body experience, saying "suddenly I found myself above and next to my body, which I saw sitting on the edge of the grave... And I had the sensation of hovering above my body in complete bliss."

(5) On page 23 of the periodical here we read this:

" 'On one occasion at a dentist’s office.' says Arthur J. Wills, Ph.D., C.E., of 224 Herrick Road, Riverside, Illinois, 'the dentist was drilling in my tooth. Suddenly I found myself outside of myself looking over the dentist’s shoulder into my own mouth!' 

(6)  On the same page of that periodical, we read an account by a Mr. Hyman who says, "I found myself high up in the room, from where, to my terror, I saw my body on the bed, eyes closed. " 

(7) Barbara Lambert said that during a difficult labor she floated out of her body to the ceiling, and saw her body from above, temporarily thinking that the body below her was her twin sister (link). 

(8) A woman (W.H. Westley) said that at her son's funeral her heart fluttered, and she found herself high above the funeral attendees, addressed by the very son who had died (link).

(9) Ami Greenstead suffered from a rare illness causing many fainting experiences, but reported to her mother that she had out-of-body experiences during such events, going up to the ceiling and observing her body from above (link). 

(10) Bryce Bond reports that when hospitalized from an allergic reaction, he rose up out of his body to the ceiling, before traveling through a dark tunnel, and meeting a dead relative he recognized (link).

(11) Dick Battista reported floating above the operating table during a transplant operation and watching the surgeons do their work (link).

(12) Marjorie Hall reported that she had an out-of-body experience during childbirth. She says, "I felt myself lift out of my body and float upward, " She reported seeing from above her body giving birth, at a height about 15 feet (about five meters) above the scene (link). 

(13) In the interesting book The Imprisoned Splendour, we read the account of a man who was thrown twenty feet after his armored scout car got struck by a German anti-tank shell in 1944. We read this:

"I was conscious of being two persons -- one, lying on the ground in a field where I had fallen from the blast, my clothes, etc., on fire ...The other 'me' was floating up in the air, about twenty feet from my body, from which position I could see not only my other self on the ground, but also the hedge, the road, and the car, which was surrounded by smoke and burning fiercely."

(14) On page 95  of a book we read this account by Cromwell Anderson:

"One night I awoke to find myself floating over my body, a few feet from the ceiling and could see my physical body on the bed beneath me. 

On page 123 of the 1954 Proceedings of the American Society for Psychical Research (Volume 48), which you can read here, we read of a poll done of 42 students who were asked: "Have you ever actually seen your physical body from a viewpoint completely outside that body, like standing beside the bed and looking at yourself lying in the bed, or like floating in the air near your body?” 33% answered "Yes." 

Robert Crookall noted quite a few observers who reported floating horizontally above their bodies at a distance of about one or two meters:

"A number described their newly released 'doubles' as occupying a remarkable position, namely horizontal, just above the vacated body. They were J. McCormack (who noted 'this rather odd position'), Miss Bazett (about three feet above), Mrs. C. H. Smith (about a foot above), Mulvey (about three feet above), Dennis, Mr. 'H,' Mrs. Boorman, Dr. Gilbert, Mrs. Hibberd, Miss Douglas, Nurse Normanby, Mrs. 'Horam,' Miss Dean, G. Lester, and Mrs. Folson ( when she was a child of five or six years). More than a score of others, who did not describe the horizontal position, did note that their 'doubles' were above their bodies."

Below are some cases from one of the books of Robert Crookall:

• Case #161. A Mrs. J. Douglas Newton reported this: "My son, then 8 years of age, who had never heard of any¬ thing of this sort, had gone to bed one night and was lying reading. Suddenly he called rather urgently for me. I found him sitting up, rather scared. He said, 'Such a funny thing has happened. I was just lying reading when I felt I was rising into the air. I seemed to go up, near the ceiling. Then I looked down and could see myself lying in bed. I came slowly down.' "
• Case #162. A B. Barrett reported this: "I was in perfect health when one night I found myself looking down at my earthly body and could not make out why it was not lying there dead as I thought."
• Case 165. A Mrs. Lambert reported this: "Suddenly I shot out of my body. I lay about six feet up, looking down at myself."
• Case 170. A Peter Urquhart stated this: "I went outside and found myself out of the body again. This time the sensation was like being in a balloon, attached by a cord somewhere in the region of the navel, like the umbilical cord."
• Case 172. A Mrs. Argles reported this: "I found myself standing on the top of the steps, looking down on my body, lying on the floor. There was a cord connecting me to the body on the floor."
• Case 173. Vera Oates stated this: "in the early hours of the morning I was suddenly wide awake, but, to my amazement, I was hovering between the railing and the bed. I looked down and saw myself on the bed."
• Case 175. A Mrs. Harris stated this: "I have left my body many times, walking round the room and looking at my body which is joined by a cord." Reports of such a cord connecting body to soul are not very rare.
• Case 183. A Mrs. M. F. Hemeon stated this: "Suddenly I felt myself  ‘swimming’ up out of my body...I was very startled, and by an effort of will... returned to my body."
• Case 194. A woman states, " Suddenly I was floating with my nose almost touching the ceiling—I saw all the little imperfections in the distemper."
• Case 201: An R. J. Carlson states, " I suddenly found myself out of and above myself—and yet I could either sense or see my body in bed."
• Case 204: A Rebecca Schreiber stated "I suddenly felt I had left my body and was flying over the ocean until I came to the ship" (the Queen Mary) that her daughter was on. After asking her daughter what was wrong, and being told she was sea-sick, she told her daughter she would soon feel better. Her daughter later said she had an experience matching this visitation account, while on the ship, at about the same time. 
• Case 236. Oscar Mockler stated, "The next thing I was aware of was standing on the floor of the cabin and looking down at my body lying asleep in the bunk."
• Case 241.  Mrs. N. Matile stated this: "I found myself floating above my bed (about three feet above). I then quickly passed out of the window to the middle of the Mews where we were living. It was a starry night and it was a lovely feeling, floating in the air. "
• Case 243. An M.E. Fearn stated this: "I felt myself arise and float off the bed and ... was at the foot of our bed, looking at myself asleep, facing my husband’s back. Then I floated towards the window."
• Case 246.  A Mrs. Eyres stated, "I had a feeling that the real Me came out of my body through the head and I had the sensation of flying.” She claimed to have visited other countries in out-of-body experiences. 
• Case 247. A Mrs. Watkin claimed to be visited by two figures who took on a visit to some spirit world. She states this: "I was brought back to my bedroom and there the three of us again stood looking at my lifeless-looking body. Suddenly I slipped easily and swiftly into it."   
• Case 259. A Miss Douglas stated this: "“One night I awoke from sleep to find that I was in a horizontal position and suspended in mid-air. In this position I travelled at moderate speed through the bedroom windows out into the night. It was moonlight and I could see the houses very clearly. I felt thrilled as I travelled along ...It was so real. I drifted across the roof-tops and identified the neighbours’ gardens. ... On the return journey I seemed to be losing height but not speed. ... Finally, I arrived in the garden at home, still remaining in a horizontal position and suspended in mid-air."
• Case 267. A Mr. Hall stated this: "Presently a most strange sensation passed through my body. Next I floated out through the window and across the town. I seemed to be several hundred feet above the ground."
• Case 269. A Mrs. Flint stated, "One afternoon, while resting on my bed, I felt myself floating, or rather suspended in the air, and I was actually looking down at my body on the bed."
• Case 285. A Mrs. Mansergh stated this: "In February, 1939, my husband and I retired to bed as usual and I awoke to find myself standing by the side of the bed looking down on the sleeping forms of my husband and myself. I moved away from the bed to the window. As I moved, I noticed a glistening cord trailing from me." 
• Case 309. A G. Bradley stated this: " I awoke about 7 a.m., and had the sensation of leaving the body. All I could see was the frame of myself left in the bed. I was floating around the room feeling peaceful. Suddenly I had the urge to get back into the shell of my body. What a struggle I had to do it!"
• Case 310. A Mrs. Shakespeare stated this: "During the night I seemed to float down the ward and then returned and hovered over my bed, looking down at myself. I felt calm and peaceful.”
• Case 313: A Mrs. Fyal stated this:  "Suddenly I felt myself leaving my body and looking around my bedroom... I saw my own body...Suddenly I found myself wandering again and floated to my body where, in the morning, I was astounded that I was in it."
• Case 314: A Mrs. Langridge stated this: "I was outside my body, suspended in air, and looking down upon my body. Three or four people were reviving me. I was in a pleasant state of freedom and thought, ‘I wish these people would leave me alone!' "
• Case 327. Dr G. B. Kirkland stated this: "To my surprise, I found myself looking at myself lying on the bed. The thought; just flashed through me that I didn't think much of me —in fact, I didn’t approve of me at all. Then I was hurried off at great speed. Have you ever looked through a very long tunnel and seen the tiny speck of light at the far end ? It seems an incredible distance off. Well, I found myself with others vaguely discernible hurrying along just such a tunnel or passage—smoky or cloudy, colourless, grey and very cold."
• Case 336: An F. W. Talbot stated this: "The next  moment I was suspended in mid-air, horizontal, and looking down at my body on the bed. I could see myself lying in bed quite clearly. I watched an attendant go to my body, lift my arm and plunge in a needle. This was extremely interesting; I was suspended over his head and my feeling was that of detached curiosity."
• Case 337: A Mrs Rowbotham stated, "I remember being on the ceiling of the room looking down at the two doctors and two nurses—just floating and watching."
• Case 339: A Kathleen Snowdon stated this: "Suddenly I realized a feeling of great excitement, wonder and delight surpassing anything I had ever experienced as I felt my body [‘double’] completely weightless and floating upwards in a golden glow towards a wonderful light around hazy welcoming figures and the whole air was filled with beautiful singing. I floated joyfully towards the light and then I heard my mother’s voice calling me. My whole being revolted against going back."
• Case 343: An S. H. Kelly stated this: "As I lost consciousness, certain things in my life came in front of me. This was followed by a queer sound of music and the next thing I was suspended in mid-air and looking at them bringing my body out of the water and trying artificial respiration. I was very happy and free and wondered why they were doing that when I was here! At that moment I was transported to my mother’s room. I stood beside her as she was by the fire in an easy chair, trying to tell her I was all right and happy. Afterwards, I was back, looking at my body, when a brilliant light shone around me and a voice said, ‘It is not your time yet—you must go back. You have work to do!' "
• Case 346:  A Mrs. Maries stated this: "Meanwhile I  had left my body and felt myself floating in what seemed like a dark tunnel (with a glimpse, at the end, of a lovely countryside). I had no pain, only a wonderful feeling of happiness. I felt I had somebody with me, but saw nobody. Only I heard a voice which said, ‘You must go back! That child needs you!’ I returned to my body and heard the doctor say, ‘No, by Jove, I can still feel her heart!’ "

Fleeting Faces Forming From High-Voltage Currents?

 Below is a report that appeared on page 338 of the June 1 1934 edition of the periodical Light, which you can read here:

 LUMINOUS SPECTRES

 “ 'L A REVUE SPIRITE'  for May (Paris) quotes as follows from Aujourd’hui (12-3) : 

' In a Naples laboratory where experiments were being carried on with high-tension currents, extraordinary phenomena have several times occurred. In the completely darkened room, the engineers have observed luminous spectres moving about, having the appearance of human arms or legs. After remaining visible for several minutes, they disappeared without leaving a trace. Believing that they were the victims of an optical delusion, the engineers re-started their experiments several times, to be again confronted by the luminous spectres—which on the last occasion took the form of a clear-cut human face. 

 This is not the first time such things have been testified to. At Fribourg in Brisgau, during some chemical manipulations, the scientists noticed materialisations analogous to those mentioned above. They too were luminous and took the form of human heads. The Schenectady Laboratory, near New York, where research work on high-frequency currents were in progress, reports the same mysterious and disquieting phenomena.' "

I am not at all surprised to read the result above, because what is described is an effect like I often got myself when photographing pure, clean drops of water falling in front of a black featureless background. On some days there would start to appear an effect I called the water face effect. When the effect occurred, a photograph of ordinary drops of pure, clean water falling would show many instances of circular shapes with face-like structures. Once the effect had started on a particular day, the effect would usually persist for many consecutive photos, maybe hundreds of consecutive photos. Each photo would show many circular objects with face-like structures. An example of one of the photos that I took on December 5, 2019 is shown below:

All of the observations discussed here are inconsistent with the assumptions of materialism. Under such assumptions phenomena such as random electricity and falling water drops should never produce persisting representations of human faces. But under radically different assumptions, such phenomena may occur.  Under assumptions that we are all spirits living in a spirit-entangled reality, such manifestations may occur. Spirits with unknown capabilities may influence matter in ways we cannot predict, and we cannot set limits on what manifestations we may see from such powers. 

The effect of face-like structures appearing when photographing falling water drops was one of only very many massively repeating pattern effects I got on very many days when photographing pure, clean water fall in front of a featureless black background. There were very many other types of patterns that would occur. To see them all, you can look at my series of 700+ posts here, continuing to press Older Posts at the bottom right. Typically when a pattern appeared, there would be multiple instances of the pattern in each photo, and the pattern would very often persist for many consecutive photos, before suddenly stopping. The appearance of the pattern would be a "plain as the nose on your face" kind of thing, with there being no need to scan a photo carefully to see the pattern.  The patterns of many varied types would appear as obviously and dramatically as in the photos above. 

The Orbs and the Apparition

 Below is a passage from page 110 of the book The Other World  by Frederick George Lee, which you can read here: 

"The husband was often absent, but he and his wife occupied the room in which Mrs. Webb had died, while· their daughter, a girl about ten years of age, slept in a small bed in the comer. ...

Mrs. Accleton, during her husband's absence, having engaged her mother to sleep with her one night, was suddenly aroused at the same hour of two by a strange and unusual light in her room. Looking up she saw quite plainly the spirit of Mrs. Webb, which moved towards her with a gentle appealing manner, as though it would have said, ' Speak, speak ! ' 

" This spectre appeared likewise to a Mrs. Radboune, a Mrs. Griffiths, and a Mrs. Holding. They assert that luminous balls of light hovered about the room during the presence of the spirit, and that streams of light seemed to go up towards a trapdoor in the ceiling, which led to the roof of the cottage."

A Yellow Orb

Earlier in the day while alone in my home there was another of very many times in which I noticed a coin that seemed to have appeared mysteriously. I saw a quarter lying atop the middle of the middle cushion of a sofa, very noticeable against a dark blue background. I had been two meters away a few minutes earlier to empty a trash basket, without noticing any such quarter.  I was wearing tight jeans, and there seemed to be no chance that such a quarter might have dropped out of my pockets. 

Told Someone Was Dying, She Soon Saw a Spooky Orb Above Her Head

 On page 124 of Volume 10 of the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research (1894), which you can  read here, we read this account by a Miss Williams:

(191. 2.) From Miss Williams. 11, Cleveland-terrace, Coatham, Redcar, September 23rd, 1889.

 "I was living at home with my parents at Eston-in-Cleveland. There was a working man called Long living in the village, not far from our house, whose wife was taken ill. Dr. Fulton, who at that time was staying with us, came in one night between 9 and 10 o'clock and said Mrs. Long was dying. After that we sat talking over the fire a good while, and then my sister Isabella and I went off to bed. We slept in a back bedroom, and after we got to this bedroom I said, ' Oh, I've forgotten something in the large bedroom !' To this latter I proceeded by myself, and, as I approached the door, something seemed to say to me, ' You'll see something of Mrs. Long, living or dead ! ' But I thought no more of this, and entered the bedroom, which I had to cross to the opposite end for what I wanted. When I had got the things in my hand, I noticed a lovely light hanging over my head. It was a round light —perfectly round. I had taken no light with me, but went for the things I wanted in the dark. I looked to see if there was any light coming in from the windows, but there was none : in that direction there was total darkness. I grasped one hand with the other and stood looking at the strange light to be sure that I was not deceived and was not imagining it. I walked across the room to the door, and all the way the light was hanging between my head and the ceiling. It was akin to the electric light : something of a cloud, though every part of it was beaming and running over with light. It left me at the bedroom door. On first seeing it a strange impression seized me, and after it left me I was so impressed that I could not speak of it to anyone for a day or two. I wondered at the time whether it had anything to do with Mrs. Long, and on inquiry I found that she died just about the time when I saw the light. If there was any difference, I judged it would be a little before, but there would not be much in it. This would be about 11 p.m , and about four years ago. It left an impression on my mind which I have never forgotten, and never shall forget. Mrs. Long was not ill many days—about two or three ; she died rather suddenly. I was rather interested in her. I did not see her during her illness, but had often seen her and talked to her before.  I was perfectly well at the time. and was in no trouble or anxiety. My age at the time was 23. I have had no experience of the kind before or since. I saw no figure, only a lovely light. Before telling my sister I made her promise she would not ridicule me nor call me superstitious. To the best of my recollection this is a correct statement. "

"' P.S. —-The light which I saw was a palish blue. It emitted no rays, so that all the rest of the room was in darkness. It was wider in circumference than my head, so that as I walked I could see it above me without raising my head. As I left the room it remained, and when I looked again was gone. It was in a corner, where the darkness of the room was deepest and the least chance of illumination from the windows on the right and left, that I first saw it above my head. I had no fear, but a kind of sacred awe. The light was unlike any other that I ever saw, and I should say brighter than any other, or, at least, purer. Looking at it did not affect the eyes. It was midway between my head and the ceiling."

This one was also from 2014, with the orb being large, making up 15% of the original photo height:

The Mysterious Orbs and the Presidential Assassination

 On page 13 of the January 1897 edition of the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research, which you can read here, we read this:

"On the evening of May 21st, 1881, I was seated by a window at A. B. Rolfs in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Saw two large balls of light pass the window followed by a long crimson scarf that [it] seemed would never pass, its length was so great. I rose from my seat and went to the dining-room where some of the family were at tea ; told them what I saw, and stated my convictions that it was some national calamity. The balls meant death and the long scarf blood that would enwrap the whole nation. I then saw a stout, dark young man who handed me a paper. I then said, 'We will hear of this by such a young man as I describe.'  Time passed and the vision had gone from memory, when one day in July, same year, we all sat sewing and a man passed the window. I recognised the young man I had seen in my May vision ; sprang to meet him and he handed me a bulletin announcing Garfield's assassination, or rather the shooting that cost his life—the first intimation we had had of such a thing."

President Garfield was shot on July 2, 1881, and never fully recovered. He died on September 19,1881. The shooting was about six weeks after the strange sight of moving balls of light. 

The Mysterious Orbs and the Spooky Death Notification

 On page 375 of the June 22, 1934 edition of the periodical Light, which you can read here, we read the following account of observing mysterious orbs in a seance:

"MME. NIJINSKY, who recently returned to London, tells us of a strange experience of Rudi Schneider and his wife. Rudi said he had never sat with a Medium. Mme. Nijinsky took him and his wife to Miss Frances Campbell. During the sitting—which Rudi, we are told, hugely enjoyed—balls of light sprang up and skipped from Rudi to Mme. Nijinsky’s lap. Miss Campbell gave accurate descriptions of the family affairs of her sitters ; then she turned to Mrs. Schneider and said : 'I feel I must prepare you for a blow. Your brother has been shot to-day in Linz.'  Mrs. Schneider protested that it could not be true. Next day, however, a telegram arrived stating that in the riot which cost so many lives in Austria, Mrs. Schneider’s brother had been killed."

A Mysterious Blue Orb, Levitation and a Spirt-Hand Playing a Violin

 On page 187 of the March 21, 1935 edition of the periodical Light, which can be read here, we get two astonishing accounts. First, we hear of the sighting of an apparition:

"In the Revue Spirite Beige for February (Liège), Dr. Lucien Graux tells the following story. One night, M. Albert Lambert, of the Comédie Française, was silently going over his part in ' Ruy Bias'  in his private room, when there entered a man in a long cloak, who was the very image of the Ruy Bias of the title part of the play. The apparition commenced to recite Victor Hugo’s verses. Albert Lambert listened with every sense alert; it was as though revelation and enlightenment were coming to him from the other world. When he was afterwards questioned about this vision, the famous actor replied: ' You wish to know whether it was an illusion, whether I really saw, or only thought I saw? My emphatic reply is this : I both saw and I heard.' ”

Then we have an account of a mysterious blue orb appearing at a seance:

"An eye-witness has sent to the Neues Wiener Journal (Vienna, January 7th), an interesting account of a sitting with the young French Medium, Mile. Remy. The sitters were the guests of Professor Lyonel, and included two well-known University Professors, two medical men, and an engineer, who was in charge of an intricate set of control apparatus, including a camera for infra-red film photography, as well as one that registered even the faintest manifestation of light. The delicate-looking young girl sat down in an armchair and was then put into slight hypnotic sleep. After an interval of only five minutes, Professor Lyonel was touched by a hand and the correspondent by another; then the table on which the sitters’ hands were resting was raised by powerful pressure from below and levitated into the air. The wish was expressed that the hitherto sceptical investigators might be enabled to see what was taking place, and a second later an iridescent ball of blue light appeared close under the ceiling; and the ticking of the light-registering apparatus gave independent evidence of this fact. By the light of this ball of blue, the sitters saw that the table was raised six to seven feet above the floor. The light then sank down over the Medium’s chair, revealing the sleeping figure of the young girl; and so profound was this sleep that it was not broken when, next moment, with a loud report, the ball of light burst and disappeared.

The account ends: 'There followed ten minutes of expectant waiting, when suddenly the room was filled with the most marvellous but infinitely sad music of a violin. We had seen before the room was darkened that, amongst the instruments on its walls, there was a violin, with its bow beside it. But whose was the masterhand that was now playing it? Certainly not the Medium’s, for, under the controlling eyes of the apparatus, she could not leave her seat even for one second without being detected; and the strip of film which I was allowed to examine later on proved that throughout the seance Mile. Remy had never left her chair. But the photograph also showed a film-like hand hovering in the air, with the delicate tapering fingers of a woman—ethereally delicate, as if from another world than ours.' ”

Paranormal Elongation, a Piano Levitation, and Mysterious Orbs

 A very distinguished Earl (called under British customs the Master of Lindsay or Lord Lindsay) had many meetings with the famous medium Daniel Dunglas Home. Lord Lindsay kept careful records of paranormal events occurring at such meetings. Lord Lindsay was interviewed by the investigators of the famous Dialectical Society of London, when they did their long formal investigation finding resoundingly in favor of paranormal phenomena, which resulted in a long report that can be read in full using the link here or here. Lord Lindsay described viewing various dramatic types of paranormal phenomena, and his testimony is summarized in my post here. 

Lord Lindsay had printed up a small number of copies of a privately printed document discussing his observations of the paranormal around 1870. For many years the document was available only to a small, select group of people who had one of the rare copies. Finally in the 1920's the Society for Psychical Research published the document, which appeared in Volume 35 of the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research (1925), which you can read here.  We have a book-length document describing some of the most amazing marvels humans have ever seen. 

On page 60 and the following pages we have a description of a Seance #6 at the house of Mr. Jencken, the husband of the medium Kate Fox, by then Kate Fox Jencken. (Kate was herself someone associated with many reports of the paranormal, as discussed here.) First we read that a servant at the house had been "seeing phosphorescent balls of light in her room at night."

We then read this:

"Home stood up and said, 'He is very strong and tall.'  and standing there beside me. Home grew, I should say, at least, six inches. Mr. Jencken, who is a taller man than Home, stood beside him, so there could be no mistake about it. Home's natural height is, I believe, 5 feet 10 inches. I should say he grew to 6 feet 4 inches or 6 feet 6 inches. I placed my hands on his feet, and felt that they were fairly level on the ground. .... He appeared to grow also in breadth and size all over, but there was no way of testing that. He diminished down to his natural size, and said, 'Daniel will grow tall again ' ; he did so, and said, 'Daniel's feet are on the ground,' he walked about, and stamped his feet. He returned to his natural size, and sitting down, he said, 'Daniel is coming back now, sit down, and do not tell Daniel at once what he has said.' In a few seconds he awoke."

This was only one of many times in which a paranormal elongation of the body of Daniel Dunglas Home was reported. We then read that the seance ended in this way

"We all went into the drawing room ; it was quite dark. Home sat at the piano, and played a few notes. Mrs. Hennings sat near him ; Mrs. Jencken a little way off ; Mr. Jencken and I stood near the piano. Soon we observed the light that we had been told we should see. A small luminous ball flitting about, sometimes very brilliant ; the chords of the piano were swept, but the keys were not touched. The piano was lifted off the ground about 2 inches. I had my hand underneath, and it was again lifted about 2 inches, and then without any effort, I should say 8 inches higher. It was not tilted, but lifted bodily. We now heard loud raps, the alphabet was called, and ' Good night ' spelled out. Nothing more occurred.."

Effects such as these in the presence of Daniel Dunglas Home were reported by many witnesses. As discussed in my post here, Home was investigated by the leading physicist Sir William Crookes, who reported dramatic paranormal effects occurring in Home's presence, including the levitation of Home himself (as you can read about in Crookes' publications here and here). 

Like a Volcano

We see below a mysterious orb I photographed indoors. Oddly inside the orb I see a shape that reminds me of a volcano shape.  I hope this is not some kind of ominous omen.  A volcano eruption can be like nuclear fallout, and just as deadly. I hope there is no connection between this image and a dream I had on October 4 about people gradually dying from nuclear fallout. 

The Sky Orb Was as Bright as the Moon

Below is an account from a paper dated September 10, 1959:

Brothers, Neighbor Report UFO Here Bright As Moon (From The Peoria Journal Star) 

"A Peoria drug salesman reported seeing an unidentified flying object 'just about as bright as the moon but not as high' at 10:30 p m. Saturday as be went out to move his car. J. H. Baker, 2725 Renwood Ave., Hamilton Park, said he at first thought the object was an airplane, but it then appeared as 'a round large ball of white light.' The phenomenon, said Baker, could be seen moving rapidly from southwest to northeast at a height of 10,000 to 12,000 feet. Baker said the object also was seen by his brother, R. J. Baker, visiting here from Chicago, and by a neighbor, Jack Rhodes, 2724 Renwood. The brother trained a powerful pair of binoculars on it. The strange object stayed in sight from 4 to 6 minutes. 'It was moving much faster than a jet plane,' Baker reported." 

The length of time the sight was observed seems to rule out a meteor (something that appears visible in the sky for less than 15 seconds).  A check of a moon phase calendar suggests that on the Saturday in question (September 6, 1959) the moon looked like a mere thin crescent. 

The Telekinesis and the Mysterious Orb

Telekinesis refers to some paranormal ability to move matter only by mind or the power of spirit. You could use the term for any inexplicable movement seen at a seance, such as the table levitations that were so widely reported. On page 294 of the document here, we have a letter by Arthur Conan Doyle, dated July 19, 1922. He records observations at a seance of the Austrian medium Frau Silbert:

"Yesterday, July 18th, I was one of six who sat with Frau Silbert, the Austrian medium, at the British College of Psychic Science....I was seated on the left of the medium. Behind her was the 'cabinet,' a curtained enclosure, partially open in front. This I examined and found empty. The red light was kept fairly high—so high that we could easily see every movement of the medium or of each other. We laid our watches upon the ground under the table, as it was said that the medium’s control was able sometimes to scratch his name, Ivel, upon them. I may say at once that this phenomenon did not take place....

Presently the medium sank into trance, and made curious movements with her hands as if she were drawing some substance from her mouth and nose. If anyone were choking with cobwebs and was trying to clear oneself, it is the movement they would have made. She then stood up, gave a sharp cry, and picked apparently out of the air behind her one of the watches which had been on the ground. We were all agreed that neither she nor any member of the company had stooped down from the moment that the watches had been placed there. It was a clear case of movement without contact or telekinesis.  

The trance now deepened and the woman gave little whining cries, exactly like those which are the prelude to childbirth. Eva gives the same cries when she is about to emit ectoplasm. The actual emission is, I fancy, a relief. Presently I saw on the floor, about a foot behind the medium, and between her chair and mine, a luminous ball, like a phosphorescent sponge, rather larger than my fist. It was quite clear but it vanished in a few seconds. Further luminous patches then appeared protruding from under the curtains. The ball was exactly such as has been described by Miss Scatcherd in her observations upon Eva.....Several times the curtain of the cabinet was blown out as in a high wind, and twice I was touched by some solid body when I was quite clear of the medium. The sensation was that of a dog rubbing against my leg."

The mysterious fluttering of a curtain (as if blown by a wind) was an effect frequently reported in the seances of Eusapia Palladino.  From a quality-of-evidence standpoint, a dated account like this (stating what someone saw on the same day or the previous day) is relatively good evidence, much better than someone just recalling what he saw months ago or years ago. I advise people to always immediately write down a dated signed account of any thing very unusual that they witnessed, whether it be something paranormal-seeming or something that may be a matter of investigation by a scientist or a court.

An Orb Transforming Into a Drawing Hand?

 In the book you can read for free using this link, author Edward T. Bennett has some impressive-sounding  claims to make about the medium David Duguid and the medium Mrs. Everitt.  In the seances of David Duguid very impressive artwork would be produced while the medium was in a trance.  At the seances of Mrs. Everitt, there would reportedly occur writing at inexplicable speeds. We have a citation of  page 507 of the document here, where we have a witness claim that 280 words were written in only ten or twelve seconds;  and the page includes a quotation of such words, which make up reasonable text. We also have a citation of page 14 of the periodical here, where we have this claim:

"The following message was given by direct writing—that is, without physical contact—at a séance at which Mrs. Everitt was the medium. The circle was composed of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Everitt, Mr. and Mrs. R. Pearce, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Pearce, Mr. Morell Theobald, and Mr. R. Gale. Though the message consists of more than five hundred and fifty words it was written, as nearly as could be estimated, in about five seconds."

The passage is quoted, and it sounds reasonable enough.  The Bennett book has quite a few of the mysteriously arising drawings that occurred in the Duguid seances, and some are very impressive artwork. 

In another book on page 43 the author Jas Robertson reports his first attendance at what apparently was a seance of David Duguid (the wording is a little unclear about which medium was involved):

"At my first sitting I witnessed phenomena which I have never forgotten, and I can recollect saying to myself, when I saw a globe of light travelling from the end of the room, and assuming the form of a human hand when it reached the table, 'There never can come to me in all the future years anything which will weaken or make me deny what I am now witnessing.' "

The Water Face Effect: A Retrospective

When I started to get face-like structures when photographing falling water drops years ago, I called that extremely startling effect "the water face effect."  Below is a retrospective of some of the most startling examples I got of this astonishing phenomenon. I took all of the photos when photographing only pure, clean water drops falling. 

On this day in 2019 I got very many photos like the one below while photographing only pure, clean water drops falling.

On this day in 2021 I got more than 1000 face-like orbs like the ones below, all appearing while I photographed only pure, clean drops of falling water.

On this day in 2020 I got many photos showing what looked like surprised faces, all appearing while I photographed only pure, clean drops of falling water.

A similar pattern appeared many times on another day in 2020 while I photographed only pure, clean drops of falling water.

The ones below I photographed in 2019 rather seem to have features resembling eyes, a nose and a mouth. Again, they appeared while I  photographed only pure, clean drops of falling water.

To help demonstrate the authenticity of this astonishing phenomenon, I took a video of my camera's viewfinder as I was photographing these mysterious "orb faces." The video is shown below. In the video, you can clearly see the face-like details appear many times in the camera's viewfinder as I was photographing nothing but ordinary drops of pure, clean water falling in front of a black featureless background.

This "water face effect" is only a small fraction of the much larger phenomenon under which I got for years dramatically repeating patterns of many different types while photographing falling drops of pure clean water, with there typically being a persistence of some distinctive pattern over many different consecutive photos, with multiple instances (up to ten or more) of the pattern in individual photos. Chased by Mysterious Orbs?

 Below is an account from page 10 of the November 1962 Psychic Observer which you can read here.

"Another frightening UFO encounter—a thirty mile chase—was reported by Mr. and Mrs. Richard DuBois, 13481 Shirley Street, Westminister, California. On the night of October 21, returning from a vacation, they were driving along Route 60 in New Mexico. Except for their car, the highway was deserted. It was about 2 a.m., when a 'brilliant ball of white light' flashed down across the car, slowed, then turned back and followed alongside. 'At first, I thought it was an airplane making an emergency landing,' said Mrs. DuBois. But the strange 'ball ’ streaked back into the sky. DuBois’ conjecture that it might be an odd moonlight reflection was quickly disproved. For the bright object again flashed down, raced ahead of the car, then flowed to let them catch up.  'We were really frightened by this time.' Mrs. DuBois reported. And their alarm increased when the strange device pacing them suddenly separated into four smaller, glowing objects. Flying alongside, the formation kept pace with the car until a service station appeared ahead. When DuBois slowed down, the four UFO's flashed upward and went out of sight. 'We were so terrified.' said Mrs. DuBois, 'That my husband drove at 100 miles an hour to the next town. We asked if there had been any reports of flying objects, but people only laughed. They thought was it was funny, bur. we were plenty scared.' "

A Translucent Orb Formed Above Her Dying Body

 On page 121 of the document here, we read an account by J. Ricardo Lavicka, telling what he saw at about  age 14. He says that he saw forming above the head of a dying sister a translucent sphere about as big as a basketball. We read this: 

Orb Trio Spooks Motorist

 At the website "Stan Gordon's UFO Anomalies Zone," we have a headline of "Three Low Level Glowing Spheres Nearly Strike Car Near Smithfield, Pennsylvania-September 18, 2024."   We read this:

"During more recent years, reports of small, low level, balls of light and sometimes referred to as orbs, have increased and are continuing to be reported from widespread locations. Some of these cases have taken place during daylight, within feet of observers and in good weather conditions. There are other incidents that are more startling such as these “mini-UFOs” appearing inside of homes, and in some cases physiological effects have been reported. Over the years I have received daylight reports of these smaller objects pacing vehicles and even entering the vehicles at times."

We read this account from a witness. 

" She was driving northbound on 119 when suddenly the three objects appeared from the left side of the road and moved across her path of travel at about hood-height.  She said she would have likely hit them had she not slammed on her brakes.  She stated the three balls moved in a straight line with just a few feet between them across the road and into the field below on her right.  Each sphere was white, and about twelve inches in diameter.  "

Orange Orb and a Yellow Orb

We see below two mysterious orbs I photographed indoors.  The yellow orb has a strange feature.

Baraduc's Photo of a Large Orb at a Deathbed

 Below is an excerpt from pages 184 to 185 of The Problems of Psychical Research by Hereward Carrington.

"Dr. Baraduc had prepared a camera beside the bed of his wife, and, at the moment of her death, photographed the body, and shortly after developed the plate. Upon it were found three luminous globes resting a few inches above the body. These gradually condensed and became more brilliant. Streaks of light, like fine threads, were also seen darting hither and thither. A quarter of an hour after the death of his wife, Dr. Baraduc took another photograph. Fluidic cords were seen to have developed, partly encircling these globes of light. At three o’clock in the afternoon, or an hour after her death, another photograph was taken. It will be seen from this photograph that the three globes of light have condensed and coalesced into one, obscuring the head of Madame Baraduc, and developing towards the right. Cords were formed in the shape of a figure eight, closed at the top, and opened at the point nearest the body. Thus, as the globe develops in one direction, the cords seem to become more tense, and pull in the opposite direction. The separation becomes more and more complete, until finally, three and a half hours after death, a well-formed globe rested above the body, apparently held together by the encircling, luminous cords, which seemed also to guide and control it. At this moment, the globe becomes separated from the body, and, guided by the cords, floats into Dr. Baraduc’s bedroom. He speaks to the globe intensely; the globe thereupon approaches him, and he feels an icy cold breeze, which seems to surround and issue from the ball of light. It then floats away and disappears.

Frequently, within the next few days after these experiments, Dr. Baraduc saw similar globes in various parts of the house. By means of automatic writing, obtained through the hand of a non-professional psychic, he succeeded at last in establishing communication with this luminous ball, and was informed that it was the encasement of Madame Baraduc’s soul, which was still active and alive within it!"

Baraduc may have been the first person to ever publish a photograph of a mysterious orb.  That photo is discussed in my post here. 

Higher Reality Intrusions: Some Examples

 The average person does not well understand the idea that our familiar reality may experience a sudden intrusion from a vastly different reality.  The idea is that adjacent to our known familiar reality (or accessible to it) there may be some radically different reality, and that there may occur interactions between the two. The idea is best explained by giving some examples of such events we may call Higher Reality Intrusions. I use the word "intrusion" to mean a sudden unexpected appearance of something, something that may or may not be welcome. 

Example #1: An Octopus Experiencing Strange Anomalies

Let us imagine an octopus living at the bottom of the sea. Such an animal has a familiar world of experience that rarely changes much. But occasionally some anomaly may arise that may be a hint of some world of experience vastly different from anything known to an octopus.  For example:

• A boat may travel above an octopus causing ripples that a very observant octopus might detect above him. 
• Passengers in such a boat may toss something overboard, which may sink down and land very close to the octopus: maybe a coin or a tin can. To the octopus this is an unprecedented anomaly, unlike anything he has ever seen.  An octopus would be unable to imagine any theory explaining such an event. 
• Scuba divers from such a boat may travel down to the bottom of the sea, and be seen by the octopus. To the octopus, this would be an unprecedented anomaly, something that might seem like a supernatural event. 

We may note here the utter incompetency of the octopus to explain any of these events. In each case we are seeing an intrusion from an octopus-unimagined world of experience (the world of land-dwelling creatures) into the vastly different world of experience that is the world of experience of the octopus. 

Example #2: Pacific Islanders Experiencing Aircraft and Air Drops for the First Time

During World War II the United States had many bases in remote places in the Pacific Ocean. Such bases were normally supplied by sea, although sometimes they might be supplied by air drops.  Sometimes the air drops would go to the wrong place, landing on some island where there were no US soldiers, but only tribesmen who knew nothing about the United States, and nothing about the existence of aircraft.  

You can imagine how such primitive tribesmen would have reacted to such air drops.  They may have thought that they were seeing visitations from gods, and that they were blessed by divine providence. Apparently many thought this, because there arose "cargo cults" based on such anomalous droppings of cargo.  

To such tribesmen, the droppings of cargo from the air must have seemed like the most paranormal event imagine, something supernatural. 

Example #3: The "Apocalypto" Finale

The 2006 movie "Apocalypto" has a very striking ending. We watch a Mayan escapee and two of his pursuers reaching the sea coast, at which time they experience what to them must seem like the most paranormal or supernatural experience. It is the arrival of voyagers from Europe, in ships unlike any the Mayans have seen. You can watch the finale below:

The end of the movie gives us a striking visualization of a kind of Higher Reality Intrusion.  Before the depicted event the Mayans never dreamed that there existed such a reality as a Europe capable of launching transatlantic voyages, but suddenly such a "higher reality" intruded on the reality of the Mayans. 

Example #4: Visits of "Daughter Craft" From an Extraterrestrial Mothership

Travel between stars is very difficult, and as far as we know there is the limitation that no expedition can travel faster than the speed of light. Such a speed limit should mean that interstellar travel should always take at least years. Partially because of such a limit, UFO theorists do not imagine that each unexplainable UFO is a separate UFO expedition from another star. They instead typically imagine that some very large extraterrestrial spacecraft has arrived (one called a mothership), and that such a mothership launches much smaller "daughter craft" to explore our planet. Where is this hypothesized mothership? Some speculate that it is hiding behind the far side of the moon, or maybe hiding too far away to be seen by our telescopes. 

The underlying theory gives us a good hypothetical example of a Higher Reality Intrusion. The very large mothership is like a little world of experience vastly different from human experience. Visitors from such a mothership may intrude into our reality, being seen by humans as strange UFOs. More dramatically, there may occur some "Close Encounter of the Third Kind" in which humans get a close-up look at the inhabitants of such "daughter craft" launched from a mothership. Regardless of whether such encounters do or do not occur, the scenario is useful for illustrating the concept of a Higher Reality Intrusion. 

Example #5: Mysterious Interactions From Some Spirit World or Paraverse

Now we come to a discussion of Higher Reality Intrusions relevant to the photos on this blog, and the discussions on this blog of people who saw mysterious orbs with the naked eye. There may be a Spirit World or paraverse that can interact with our world. Such interactions may have various forms:

• There may be extremely fleeting and low-energy interactions, which show up as mysterious orbs in people's photos.
• There may be more long-lasting and higher-energy interactions, which show up as visible mysterious orbs that may last for a minute or two.
• There may be mysterious movements of matter that sometimes occur on our planet because of actions by intelligences in such a Spirit World or paraverse, who have the power to briefly manipulate matter in our world, or rarely make dramatic physical manifestations such as those described here and here.
• There may be ghostly forms that appear on our planet, because of brief visitations from such a Spirit World or paraverse. 
• The inhabitants of such a Spirit World or paraverse may be able to communicate with us by showing up in our dreams, or sending us dream messages cloaked in symbolism, or by communicating with mediums. 

You could use the term "Spirit World" to describe the source of such interactions. But some might prefer to use the term "paraverse" that I introduced in my 2016 essay "The Possibility of a Paraverse" that you can read here. In that essay I gave the diagram below, contrasting the idea of a multiverse with the idea of a paraverse. 

The idea of the multiverse is that there are many other universes which have no causal interaction with our own. Such an idea has no explanatory value. But the idea of a paraverse does have explanatory value. Using such an idea, we can postulate a mysterious radically different reality adjacent to our own, which can interact with our reality, and be the source of Higher Reality Intrusions such as the mysterious phenomena listed above. The arrows in the diagram above represent causal interactions or communication.  Human souls may make sojourns to such a paraverse or Spirit World during a near-death experience, and such a paraverse or Spirit World may be the destination of our souls after our earthly life ends. Just possibly (as suggested by many dreams and near-death experiences) all our souls may have originated in such a Spirit World or paraverse, an idea that I have described as the hypothesis of nonearthly pre-existence.
