At Grand Central Terminal in New York, it seems that mysterious orbs love to appear at positions that don't look random, such as positions exactly aligned to architectural lines, or positions exactly aligned to the edge of the large US flag in the station (as shown here). Below is an interesting example of this kind of "selective positioning." There are almost no cross shapes anywhere in the huge station, but in this case an orb is positioned on one of the very few small cross shapes in the station, an intersection of lines above a hanging light.
