The photos below both show purple orbs in the sky above buildings in New York City. The one on the right (although rather dim) was very large, and took up 21% of the original photo height. Outdoor suspended dust particles are about 1 micron in size, but a particle would have to be about 3000 microns to produce an orb as large as the one shown on the right,
There was no rain, fog, mist or precipitation on this night. The air quality listed on airnow.gov was "good," with a rating of 49.
