Perplexing Plenitude

I took the photos below while photographing only ordinary drops of pure, clean water falling in front of a black featureless background.  On this day I got a very long series of photos that each had many cases of a similar-looking pattern.  The pattern appeared multiple times in most of more than 2000 consecutive photos.
