Confounding Color in an "Orb Donut"

Photo date: August 3, 2015. Photographer: Mark Mahin.

One of several strange phenomena I photograph while photographing water drops (including orb crescents, orb veils, and orb faces) is what I call orb donuts (although I could just as easily call them orb rings). These appear as hard-to-explain ring shapes that show up while I'm photographing water drops.

Normally these "orb donuts" are white colored, but in this case we see one that has a remarkable half-orange half-green color. When I took this photo, there was nothing in front of my camera other than pure, clean drops of water (falling against a solid dark background).
