Not a Ticker Tape Parade

Photo date: May 17, 2015. Photographer: Mark Mahin.

Upon looking at the photo below taken in New York City pointing up toward the sky, you may be thinking: it must have been one of those ticker tape parades, where they throw all the stuff from the windows. No, it isn't -- they don't hold those at night.  This is instead a mysterious "orb swarm" that suddenly appeared this night.

Immediately after taking this photo,  I took out a piece of cardboard, and photographed it at arm's length. The photo (taken during the same minute) showed no sign of any orbs, strongly suggesting these orbs were not caused by any particles (such as dust) very near the camera.

There was no fog, mist, rain, or other precipitation on this night.  The air quality listed on airnow.gov was moderate, with a level of 65. The pollen count listed on www.pollen.com was low to moderate, with a level of 3.0.
