Thousands Spot Spooky Red Orb Persisting for 3 Months

Below is a report from the Niagra, New York "Journal Register" of November 4, 1983.

"What is the explanation for the strange phenomenon which has been taking place over the steeple of a Protestant church in West Germany, in the town of Wanfried? Ever since early July, a mysterious ball of red light has been appearing nightly over the church. Thousands have seen it. Is it a hoax? An optical illusion? The result of mass hysteria? Or is it - as many who have seen it maintain - a supernatural occurrence?

Stray reports of visions are not that rare. But for an apparition to reappear regularly over a period of more than three months is extraordinary - even [if] there is some good explanation for it. So far, though, nobody has come up with an explanation. The possibility has been mentioned that the brilliant light of the apparition is 'St. Elmo's fire,' a flaming phenomenon sometimes seen in stormy weather at prominent points on a plane or ship or at the tops of church steeples. It a charge of electricity, which is reddish when positive (the ball of light over the German church has been described as red), and bluish when negative. But St, Elmo's fire is not known to appear in fair weather as is the case with the apparition in Germany. "

You can read the report below, on the top left corner of a page  (page 17) which also describes another case that may be even harder to explain: the Zeitoun apparition case.

At the link below, we read of two police officers who chased a "ball of light" UFO in the sky, reporting that the speed of the object seemed to match the speed of their vehicle:

https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=crp19741024-01.1.15&srpos=26&e=-------en-20--21--txt-txIN-%22ball+of+light%22------

A similar report (involving a "big ball of light") is found here:

Similarly, in the 2013 story here we read of someone seeing an orange ball of light in the sky for 30 minutes, and someone else reporting four red balls of light flying over his home, including a "very bright red ball."

Another Dream in Which I Seemed to Know Some Fact I Had Never Learned

In my previous post "Can You Know in a Dream Some Fact You Never Learned When Awake?" I discuss two interesting cases in which I seemed to know something in a dream that I had never previously learned while awake.  In one of the dreams Betty White rejected a romantic overture from Allen Ludden, something that happened in real life, but I had not learned about before having the dream. (The two eventually married.)  In another dream someone seemed to know that a marmoset was a tree dweller, even though at the time I had the dream I did not know this fact, and could not even identify what a marmoset was upon waking from the dream.  This morning I had a similar dream of this type. I seemed to know in the dream that pi (the ratio of the circumference and the diameter of a circle) is important in solving a particular problem, although I did not know this fact before the dream.

It is an interesting brain teaser to ask someone how he would compute the area of a rectangle with a large hole in its center, one looking like the figure below.

You can ask a person: "Suppose you know the radius of the circle, and the width and length of the rectangle. And suppose you have an internet connection. How would you compute as quickly as possible the area of the green shape?"

The answer is:
(1) First, you use the Internet to very quickly find the formula for computing the area of a circle, which is "area = pi times radius squared,"  and use that to compute the area of the circular hole.
(2) Then you compute the area of the green rectangle, by multiplying its width by its length.
(3) Then you subtract the first number from the second to get the area of the green figure.

In my dream of this morning, I was with people who were trying to solve this problem. In the dream I said to someone, "You'll probably end up using pi." That was correct. Pi (the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter) is part of the correct solution of this problem. But how did I know this in my dream, having never previously pondered this problem, and certainly not knowing the formula for computing the area of a circle? The dream is one of many I have had that collectively bolster my belief (held mainly for other reasons) that dreams do not come from brains, and that dreams sometimes have a source beyond individual human minds.  My reasons for doubting that mental phenomena come from brains are discussed in the posts of my blog here.

When Luminous Orbs Spooked the Hospitals

The report below is contained on page 1 of the May, 1934 edition of The International Psychic Gazette, and seems to be a repetition of an account that appeared in the prestigious Times of London.

"PIRANO, a little town on the Istrian coast, peopled by fishermen and sailors, is greatly excited over a mysterious emanation of light which has roused the imagination and religious sentiments of the populace (says the Times.)

A woman, Anna Morano, was admitted to the local hospital some time ago suffering from asthma and hysterical attacks. About the middle of last month a nurse noted in the ward where the woman was sleeping with six or seven others an intense light of brief duration which came from the bed of the woman in the region of her chest. All the lights of the hospital were out and the windows closed. The nurse informed the doctors of what she had seen and the patient was watched.

For several successive evenings the luminous phenomenon was repeated. Sometimes the light was directed upwards and took the form of a globe, which shone in the darkness of the ward on to the nearest beds and even on to the walls, but at other times it lighted only the face of the patient and was in the form of rays. It was also seen to assume the appearance of broken rays resembling lightning. Its duration was invariably three or four seconds.

The Times also published a letter from Mr. R. H. Jackson, M .R .C. S., of Bridgeway, Bakewell, stating that a nurse described to him the case of a private patient who was lying in a comatose state for some days. A light resembling a small luminous globe floated into the room, and, after remaining a minute or two over the patient, disappeared. She did not mention the incident to the family, but discovered later that an old maidservant who shared duty with her had also seen it on several occasions."

The International Psychic Gazette story speculates that the strange sightings were "spirit lights."

Anomalous Abraham

This afternoon I was adding some new material at the end of a blog post for future publication, one on a topic of "persistent apparitions." The material I added was on White House sightings of the ghost of Abraham Lincoln.  I found several old newspaper stories on the topic, including the one below:

You can read the report on it original page using the link below:

According to the page here, US President Harry Truman wrote in his diary on May 27, 1945 that "the maids and butlers swear that he [Lincoln] has appeared on several occasions," and that the same claim was made by "Mrs. Coolidge," the wife of someone who was US president about 20 years earlier.

In the bottom right corner of the same page, we get some more specifics from Eleanor Roosevelt. She says that in 1934 White House staff member Mary Eban went up to the second floor, and quickly became "wrought up," claiming that she saw Abraham Lincoln (who died in 1865) sitting on a bed and putting on his boots.

As the newspaper story continues, we are told the poet Carl Sandburg looked out a particular window of the White House, and seemed to get a strange feeling. The story tells us that "several employees have reported seeing Lincoln's gaunt apparition standing at that very Oval Room window." The same page tells us that a janitor named Jerry Smith claimed that Lincoln haunted the White House. The next page and the next page have a quote by a long-time White House employee who claims that a very prestigious visitor to the White House reported seeing the ghost of Lincoln.

Just after adding the text above to the end of a post I will later publish on the topic of "persistent apparitions," I got up a few minutes ago to get some water, and was very surprised to see that on the spot of the couch where I had sat there now was a US penny, very plainly visible, in a spot where I noticed no such coin upon sitting down at the spot maybe 30 minutes earlier.  It was as if the penny had appeared out of nowhere.  The face on a US penny is that of Abraham Lincoln.  The incident was one of many eerie-seeming things I have seen regarding coins, some of which are discussed here and here.  The penny looked as below when I saw it:

I was wearing at the time tight-fitting shorts with deep pockets, not the type of shorts that ever spill coins when someone is sitting.

A Levitating Revolving Orb of Water?

You will read very few accounts of the paranormal as strange as the account below:

https://digitalcollections.lib.umanitoba.ca/islandora/object/uofm%3A2964732?solr%5Bquery

We read of a house in which unexplained water puddles were found. A paranormal investigator was brought in. Soon things much spookier were reported, as we read in the clip below:

I've Seen and Photographed Things This Weird

Below is an incredibly strange report from the Hartford Republican of October 13, 1905 (click on the image to read the text more clearly):

weirdest weather

You can read the report on its original newspaper page using the link below:

The reported phenomenon reminds me of the "marvel of rainfall selectivity" phenomenon I describe and photographically document in my post below:

For photos and accounts justifying my claim in the title of this post, look around at the posts on this blog, such as the post below:

Below is the quick-corrected version of the OCR text of the story (for the benefit of non-English readers who may be reading this blog in a Google-translated version):

"Fall From a Cloudless Sky on Beautiful Warm Day
Mysterious Phenomenon Witnessed by Many People at Seventh and Center Streets

A curious natural phenomenon attracted the attention of number of
people Sunday  says the Owcnsboro
Inquirer. When Mrs. W M Cough
went into her yard Saturday afternoon
 her attention was called to
something resembling snow flakes
falling from above. She looked up
and over the housetops she could
discern the white flakes falling to
the ground. She reported what she
had seen to her husband. The
neighbors began to congregate and
all were greatly mystified. Sunday
just at 2 o'clock Mr. Gough went
out to see if the happening of the
day before was to be repeated. At
first rain began to fall in the one
spot followed shortly by snow. The
curious thing about it all is that the
spot is the only place where the rain
or snow falls.  Every place around
is dry. This always takes place
when the sun shines in and never in
cloudy weather. So far no solution
of the problem has been offered."

A Golden Orb Rising From a Dying Man's Chest?

Most people have heard of near-death experiences in which someone has a close brush with death, and reports having some striking paranormal-seeming experience that might include seeing his body from outside of it or a trip through some mysterious tunnel leading to some mystical realm where dead relatives are encountered, or events such as a rapid life review or encountering a Being of light. Much rarer than such accounts are accounts that have been called shared-death experiences. Such experiences were discussed in the 2010 book Glimpses of Eternity: Sharing a Loved One's Passage From This Life to the Next by Raymond Moody Jr.  In these "shared-death experience" accounts, a person in good health present when someone is dying may report some paranormal-seeming or mystical-experience far different from normal human consciousness.

On pages 6-7 of the book, we read how a Dr. Jamieson  reported to Moody having an out-of-body experience just after failing to medically revive his mother when she died. She reports seeing the spirit of her deceased mother while the doctor was out of her own body, and later returning to her earthly body next to the body of her dead mother. On page 9 Moody gives an account of a woman who said she experienced a life review recalling scenes from the life of her son, at the time the son died. The woman claims to have verified that some of these private experiences of her son (which she had not previously known of) had occurred. On page 13 we read of five family members who all saw a paranormal-seeming light effect when a family member died. Similarly on page 14 we read of two sisters who claim to have experienced a life review of events in their mother's life when she died.

On page 24 we read of someone named Tom who claims that when he saw his mother die, "I saw this film or transparent envelope of light close up and lift off her body going upwards and out of sight." On pages pages 25-26 a nurse named Millie Davis says that when her father died she saw two pillars of light. She also says she saw a strange mist rising from the body of her father when he died, and also claims that after she became a hospice nurse she saw such a mist many times rising from the body of a dying person.

On page 34 we have this account: "When his grandfather died, the young man was astounded to see 'a golden ball of light' rise from his chest and pass through the ceiling."   Another orb-related account is found on page 69.  On the day of a mother's death, a son recalls that "a globe of bright light formed around us," with scenes from the mother's life mysteriously projected on this globe.

His Mysterious Blue Orb Experience

The site www.adcrf.org is the site of an Afterdeath Communication Research Foundation organization. The site documents experiences that are often called "after-death communication." Such experiences include a wide variety of experiences in which someone may feel that there is some causal connection between the experience and a deceased person. These include things such as dreams of the deceased,  a feeling of presence involving a deceased person, or some synchronicity experience similar to the one I reported here and here

In a recent experience reported on the site, a person states this:

"I knew when Barbara died. She walked up to a pitch black wall and opened a door. Beyond the door was bright white light. Before she went through the door, she said 'see you later.' Very soon after that, I felt and saw a very strong bond of 100% commitment between us. It's an unbreakable bond. A day or so after that, I see her blue orb with her telepathic talking to me. I knew it was her. This was in the evening when I was watching TV."

A Floating Ghostly City?

I've taken some amazing photos, like the one here showing two large striped orbs in a single photo. But the account below might be about something stranger than I've ever seen or photographed. On page 403 to 404 of the 1895 document here, we have this account:

"About five o'clock on the afternoon of an early July day we suddenly perceived, rising above the glacier, over in the direction of Mount Fairweather, what at first appeared to be a thin, misty cloud. It soon became clearer, and we distinctly saw a spectral city moving toward us. We could plainly see houses, well-defined streets, and trees. Here and there rose tall spires over huge buildings, which appeared to be ancient mosques and cathedrals. It was a large city, one which would contain at least one hundred thousand inhabitants. I have seen Milwaukee miraged over Lake Michigan, and this city appeared considerably larger than that. It did not look like a modern city —more like an ancient European city. I noticed particularly the immense height of the spires. Of course we were much excited. The Indians who were with us were overcome by their superstitious fear and ran away. We both had cameras and separated in order to take it from different points of view. By the time we reached points of vantage it had grown fainter and soon disappeared. I should say the spectacle lasted about twenty-five minutes."

The account reminds me of a "floating city"  reported in 2015 in China, one that appeared in a widely seen video. My post here describes the case.

Blue Orbs at Skinwalker Ranch?

On HBO Max there is a series "Black Files Declassified" which has some interesting episodes. Episode 2 of Season 2 is entitled "Secrets of the Paranormal." The host interviews an investigator (M. J. Banias) who says he has seen strange things at Skinwalker Ranch.  At the 10:10  mark the investigator says, "There's been a lot of ghost lights, blue orbs and you'll see footprints, and you'll hear things behind you, but there's nothing there."

For another report of orbs being reported at Skinwalker Ranch, see my post here

At the 1:50 mark in the program, host Mike Baker claims there was something called an Advanced Aerospace Weapon Systems Application Program, and that "its focus was on the paranormal, including ... ghosts and floating orbs." This claim comes from Banias.

The approach taken by host Mike Baker in the rest of the episode seems like a ridiculous one. He spends almost the entire episode rounding up some people who try to advance very dubious-sounding theories that secret government high-energy projects produced orb sightings.

She Said, "We See These Glowing Orbs of Light Every Night"

In the HBO Max TV series "UFO Witness,"  Episode 2 of Season 2 has a theme of orb sightings. We hear near the beginning, "Sightings of glowing orb-shaped craft are on the rise," followed by the question "What do these aliens want?"  The narrator seems to be jumping to conclusions here, assuming that any orb seen in the sky is some craft from another planet.  We don't know what causes naked eye sightings of orbs.

"There's definitely light orbs in the sky," says one of the hosts, while in Auburn, Massachusetts (USA). Another host says, "Specifically there's been many sightings of a UFO that looks like a glowing orb."  A narration then says (at the 1:43 mark) this: "In 2021 alone 48 glowing orb-shaped UFO's were spotted from New York to Maine."  We hear an eyewitness account by a woman named Samantha Dick who in 2021 around 4 AM  saw a bright color-changing orange orb "like a blob of lava" floating about, one she captured in a video that seems to show something very bright hanging in the air.

Around the 28:15 mark someone says, "You have a lot of these people that have these interactions with these orbs, and are experiencing missing time."  I myself have never experienced such a thing. In a UFO encounter, a person will sometimes claim "missing time" involving a few hours that he can't account for.

In Episode 4 of Season 2, a woman says at about the 30:00 mark, "On my reservation we see these glowing orbs of light every night."

Early in the first episode of Season 1 of another TV series "Aliens in Alaska" we have an account by a couple who saw a big orange orb in the sky, describing it as extremely bright. We see some video footage showing such an orb in the sky. At the 17:20 mark of the second episode of Season 1a witness tells of seeing an orange sky orb going back and forth, and then suddenly disappearing. We have a similar report around the 39:00 mark and the 40:00 mark. At the 12:48 mark in Episode 4, Colei Stockton recalls seeing a bright orange ball of light in the night sky, one that soon disappeared.  She says it was followed by a sighting of a huge ship in the sky. Around the 22:04 mark a witness says he saw two orange orbs in the sky.
