The photo below was taken in Grand Central Terminal, and shows an example of the strange, strange phenomenon I call the light metamorphosis, in which light rays rise way up from their source, often bending in strange ways. We don't see any bending here, but at the bottom of the photo we do see a ray of light from a woman's smartphone rising up many times higher than her height.

The photos were flash photos with an exposure time of 1/30 of a second, using normal camera settings (no "Night photo" setting).
