The photo below was taken in Grand Central Terminal, and shows an example of the strange, strange phenomenon I call the light metamorphosis,
in which light rays rise way up from their source, often bending in
strange ways. We see a strange "spiral staircase" effect near the top.
Another photo from the same day shows an equally weird effect.
These photos were non-flash photos with an exposure of less than a second (I have taken many similar photos that are flash photos with an exposure of only 1/30 of a second, as shown here). The camera was not moving when the photos were taken.
