The Orb and the Ghostly Mist

The photo below was taken at Grand Central Terminal in New York. We see a bright orb at the top right of the photo.
Below is a closeup of the bottom left corner of the photo (I used the IrfanView "Auto-adjust colors" menu option on this closeup). We see something strange I have photographed repeatedly at this location: what looks like some strange ghostly mist floating about, blocking us from seeing some of the figures behind the "mist."
I will now be using the label "ghostly mist indoors" to label photos in which I see this effect. See here for a set of 8 previous photos in which I observed a similar strange effect.
