The photos below shows a church on Madison Avenue in New York. In the top photo, we see a large purple orb that seems to be floating just above the church steeple. The lower photo was taken from an almost identical angle, and shows no orb (which pretty much rules out a lens flare explanation).
Below is another photo showing the area to the left of this church steeple. We see simply a tower that has no bright lights. There seems to be nothing that could have caused the purple orb to appear as a result of any lens flare.
There was no rain, fog, mist or precipitation on this night. The air quality listed on airnow.gov was "good," with a rating of 46.
