A Symmetric Orb Veil

Photo date: October 31, 2015. Photographer: Mark Mahin.

The photo below was taken while photographing ordinary drops of pure, clean water falling against a dark featureless background.  We see one of the strange objects I call orb veils. This one has a fairly symmetric shape, with one side being almost a mirror image of the other side.

Usually when I photograph these mysterious things, they don't look so symmetric. Below is another (non-symmetric) example from the same day.

In both of these cases (and in all of these 11 photos) we see an internal circle or ring feature, consisting of two concentric circles or ellipses.
